This has to be wrong. It must have been rigged.

Knoxville was named the #2 Sports Town In America by Answers.com.

The website wrote: "Tennessee fans are loyal, passionate and support UT football through thick and thin. Fans in Knoxville are extremely educated when it comes to college sports.

"But best of all, the UT campus is scenic and the pre-game festivities are off the hook. This is one of the few towns in America passionate about women's sports.

"And they should be considering the UT women's basketball team regularly competes for national titles."

Here's the Top 10

1. Madison, Wis.
2. Knoxville, Tenn.
3. Gainesville, Fla.

4. Los Angeles, Calf.
5. Iowa City, Iowa
6. Tuscaloosa, Ala.
7. Columbia, Mo.

8. Austin, Texas
9. State College, Pa.
10. Durham, N.C.

I think Columbia, MO being at #7 is more strange than the ranking of Knoxville.

In 2012 Tennessee was averaging about 10,000 fewer attendees than in 2008. While most SEC teams saw smaller crowds Tennessee were the smallest even by percentage. Loyal

Baton Rouge has got to be a better sports town than some of these places.

in my experiences at Neyland, somewhere around the beginning of the fourth quarter it looks like someone pulls the plug on the stadium and all the orange juice spills out.

Los Angeles?
Not unlike Austin, that's a large city--both of which would thrive, regardless of sports.
I guess my definition is different.
Sports towns are (a) towns, and (b) live for their teams.
Interesting list though.

Tennessee was eighth in attendance in 2012 and sixth in 2013.

Eta: in 2013 Tennessee football was sixth in attendance, basketball was eight, and women's basketball was first. I don't think any other school can come close to those numbers

Unfortunately, Tiger Stadium is the same way when LSU is winning.

Tennessee was 11th in the SEC in % of capacity in 2013. I guess not some much through thin as they said.....

ETA: Missouri was 12th in the SEC in capacity % during a run to the SECCG and they are 7th on the list.....so the list is shite
