show about Alaska State Troopers. Tanana is also where the show "Yukon Men" was filmed.

There is no permanent police force in many native villages. They have a VPSO (Village public safety officer) who is unarmed, though the legislature recently passed legislation allowing them to carry firearms in the near future. Troopers fly in from hubs.

I've watched my fair share of Alaska State Troopers.. saddened by this news and wish comfort and peace for their families and the state troopers.

I saw one of the guys who was killed just a couple weeks ago, on the show. He had a good rapport with the villagers, but troopers aren't a very welcome sight in any native village.

One of my favorite "reality" shows. Sad to get this horrible news. Such a tough and dangerous job.

Reading the report of the incident, looks like the whole thing could have been stopped long before it got to that point had VPSO's been given more power.

Great show, terrible news. I can't imagine pulling up to a village and being the first cop there in months.
