Okay, so needing internet at a new place and not liking Comcast pricing (25mbps for $29/month for 6 months, then $44 for months 6-12 and $66 for months 12+....WTF????). Uverse is cheaper, but they offer less bandwidth and NOW they seem to cap the data use.....I'm being told by a rep there is a 250GB cap per month. I can't fathom how we won't exceed this cap every month since we stream literally ALL of our TV shows and entertainment.

Am I wrong? The rep is telling me that only about 2% of people exceed 250GB in a month. If it weren't for the streaming videos, I might believe that.

Based on the OT thread the other day, most people don't exceed the cap of 250GB (even the cable cutters) and the ones they do said its not a hard cap, meaning they go over it and nothing happens

ETA Some got a letter asking them to cut back

Yeah, the rep is telling me they will send you a letter the first two times, then they will bill you $10 per every 50 extra GB. I guess that isn't so bad.

I was shocked to learn how much Comcast raises the price in the first 13 months.

I think they throttle your network speed down

SIC EM, Comcast had no limit?

That's a given. Especially for the cord cutters

Comcast has a limit. Ours is 250

For all levels? My wife works out of the house, and weve also been streaming a lot more lately. Noticed some slowing of service on occasion

I surely hope not. If AT&T slows my measly 3mbps connection, I won't be able to keep them....which means going to Comcast, who apparently likes to bend their customers over and go in dry after the initial 6 month and 12 month periods. I'm already concerned that 3mbps isn't going to be enough, even though the rep assured me that it being a dedicated connection (unlike cable), I would be fine. They don't offer any higher Uverse speed at this location.

Pretty sure every company throttles bandwidth. I have had a good experience with Uverse except for the modems which seem to die about every other storm or randomly. I currently get the 18down 3up plan and it's not to bad. I never have any issues with my tv service however my internet will go from about 12down /2up to less even though I am paying for a better connection. That being said, I had media com before and I never got more than 1.5 down .5 up on speeds. It was god awful so maybe that is why I have enjoyed having uverse.

I can't get that one. 3mbps is the highest I can get. So how bad off am I going to be streaming on two devices pretty much consistently?

From my understanding, this is all they offer no matter what level. Guy on the OT said he asked about a high tier and they said no

Some people really like it with the only problem being that if you have an existing monitored alarm system it will not work over the new Uverse interface and you will need a GSM or other new technology to provide the monitoring portion for your fire and burg system.

Absolutely correct and progressive response DawgCountry the long range radio and GSM technology is vastly superior and they (burglars) cant cut phone lines that don't exist can they?

The problem herein is with existing customers who are told or don't know that everything will work fine with these new Uverse change overs and of course they don't.

Big industry wide problem for people who haven't updated their systems yet.

It will be interesting to see how google fiber changes the playing field for those crooks over at Comcast and AT&T

That looks to be a pipe dream for the foreseeable future. Even IF they expand to Atlanta, they are only targeting very specific areas around the city. Nowhere close to reaching out to the Athens area and won't be for years, if ever.

SimpliSafe security is GSM-based wireless security, and it's a snap to install. This saps your need for phone lines. Ooma is a fantastic option for home phone at $4/mo.

We have those + U-verse and have been thrilled with it.

Yes all levels. It is a safe bet that Comcast is much more anal about it than is AT&T. They will throttle you without warning, notice, or explanation. I've had my games and streaming TV/Movies throttled before for no reason other than they just thought I was doing it too much.

BTW, I'm with UVerse now. Hoping they roll out the gigapower here.
