I'm looking to get a place to myself (though the Bush School does have a FB page set up for potential roommates which I'm still considering but I'd prefer to get something just for me) Which I understand can be expensive. I've heard that grad students should generally avoid the apartments designed for undergrads for the sake of noise and what not so right now that is my only limitation.

I hear Bryan is cheaper, and is a little higher on crime, although the whole BCS area has an impressive low crime rate. So any info or recommendations on apartments or houses in the area would be greatly appreciated.

Also does anyone have a reliable site that I could check out about BCS housing? It's an unfortunate leap of faith that I'll have to take not being able to physically see the place I'm about to rent before I actually rent it.

Townhomes >>>>> apartments on price and quality. I didn't figure this out until my grad year.

I don't have a site for you honestly. Although it might be a little creepy if you post locations or complexes in here we can probably tell if you it's okay or not. I agree with pat on townhomes if you can afford one on your own. I lived in the town houses right behind Chipotle and Home Depot and they were awesome and we paid like 1350 for a three bedroom.

A small house / duplex / townhouse is the way to go as far as value. Stay close to campus (within 2-3 miles). I'd set your borders at Villa Maria (north), Hwy 6 (East), & 2818/Harvey Mitchell (South & West). Not all that area is perfect, but Grad roommate is the way to go even though its really risky. You should hang out with any potentials. Meet at NG for din and a few beers.

All of this is solid advice

Duplex or townhome is what you're gonna want to look for. If you can land a roommate or two, you can get a pretty sweet duplex for a great price.

Agree. it is creepy, but we could set you straight.

I can give my experience. I luckily had a great roomie for 4.5 years 1 in a dorm & 3.5 in a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom duplex just northeast of Southwest & Texas. We paid about $800(total) a month and it included internet, directv, and we had to maintain the yard. It was close enough to campus, but far enough to avoid some regular crowds. I though and still think we got a hell of a deal.

Find a place on the south side of CS. (On Wellborn Rd. South of Harvey Mitchell) There are many great places to live.

My first year, I lived at the Barracks Townhomes at Rock Prairie and Wellborn. Go through a private owner instead of the HOA and you will save alot of money. Since then, I've lived in a house in the "Dove" area off of Graham and its been great.

ETA: Graduating in may, only lived 3 years in CS. All 3 years on the south side. It can be a bit of a drive (10-20 mins), but its a great area.

Great duplexes off of Wellborn and William D. Fitch/40.

Coming in from Rock Prairie to campus or NG is like 15-20 min in traffic. To me I'd rather be closer. Time is $.

I did it every day for years.
Not bad at all.
But to each his own.

Bryan can be very sketchy in some areas. I delivered pizza there and lived off villa Maria my non-corps year. It has one of the highest crime rates for a city under 100,000 so I wouldn't recommend anything in an old area up there.

CS is your best bet.

I live in dove hollow off of Graham. Taking highway 6 to lot 50 from where I live takes 12 minutes unless the route is down for construction.

Agree on town home or duplex to reduce noise.

Much better than having someone walking around above you and making obvious sex noises while you're alone trying to read. Because you know you'll have to stop and have a depressing fap session when you realize the hot blond chick upstairs is getting pounded.
