a destination job?

When is the last time a coach at your school left for a better job?

Everyone in the Big 6, plus TAMU and SCAr. Butch Jones may be the exception, just because he was still something of an upstart when Tennessee got him. That isn't really a slight at Tennessee, though.

SCAR is a little different too, it may not be a destination job for a different coach.

Well Pinkel used Mizzou to be his last destination. Im not sure if by choice or not but it has happened.

After the responses should do a comparison to schools that have had a coach move onto another position directly from the school

I would consider LSU a destination job.
Even though Saban left to go to the NFL, there are no schools a guy won't leave if the NFL is calling.

I know hammers will says that Saban won't leave for the NFL, but that is because the NFL broke him and spit him back to College.

Sometime in the '40s? Not really sure but it has been a very long time.

Yeah, LSU and Alabama have a way of turning Auburn coaches into worthless puddles of goo.

Joel Hunt, 1939. Left to coach at the UNiversity of Wyoming (tbh, it's hard to tell who left for a better job and who was forced out. Before Hunt, Harry Mehre left to coach Ole Miss. But since Hunt, all UGA coaches have either retired or were fired (Goff, Donnan).

By this criteria you could call State a destination job.

For LSU since 1960:

Dietzel went to Army
Cholly Mack retired
Stovall was fired
Arnsparger took the AD job at UF
Archer was fired
Hallman never worked at LSU
Dinardo was fired
Saban took an NFL HC job

Dietzel was the only one to take another college coaching job since the 50's.

Yes he did. Bravo to Pinkel. On ncaa14 ps3, pinkel got fired from mizzou and I hired him as offensive coordinator at Bama. Good times.

I can't remember specifically but I believe it was like the 1930s that a head coach left for another coaching job.

Auburn's win% since 1960, minimum 20 games:

Opponent First Last Win%
Kentucky 1960 2010 0.833
Mississippi 1965 2013 0.812
Mississippi State 1960 2013 0.731
Georgia Tech 1960 2005 0.667
Tennessee 1960 2013 0.598
Arkansas 1984 2013 0.543
Georgia 1960 2013 0.537
Florida 1960 2011 0.489
Alabama 1960 2013 0.407
Louisiana State 1969 2013 0.400

Looks like Bama's riding LSU's in this case.

I honestly can't remember an Auburn coach leaving on his own for another job. Tons of money, great fan support, great facilities, in SEC, and can win a national title. Sounds destination-worthy to me.
