I hope this succeeds and becomes widespread. Shop for groceries online, pick up at a drive thru depot. I <3 convenience.

quote:

Wal-Mart is wasting no time in deploying its latest grocery format — a stand alone pick-up center where shoppers can drive up and retrieve their online orders and never leave their car. It’s a new format concept for Walmart U.S. who continues to up the ante for convenience in the highly competitive grocery sector.

In other WalMart news, their prototype convenience store concept is also up and running in Bentonville.

You have to get your own ice out of the box? What kind of heathen shite is this?

We've got their grocery stores here. They're not bad at all.

The Neighborhood Markets are great. Limited, but always have great produce for cheap.

Dear lord, imagining the Walmart cashiers working a drive-thru gives me nightmares.

I only do self-checkout when I go.

I'm conflicted.

On one hand it's great that this would save me from having to enter a store and see/get-depressed-by the people of Wal-Mart but on the other hand it would force me to interact with a Wal-Mart employee.

When I lived in California, the Von's would allow you to shop online and they would deliver. Tried it once was pretty cool.

I don't think so. It seems like every time I go to a fast food drive-thru, they mess up a very simple order of a burger and fries...imagine going to a drive-thru store and buying 40 or 50 items--you're going to have a LOT of errors to deal with each time.

Harris Teeter and a few others already do this.

Wal-Mart already does it in the UK. I don't know where Harris Teeter is.

I've done this at Sam's Club, but you still have to get out of your car and go inside while they bring all of your stuff up to the front. This says it will operate like Sonic.

I wouldn't trust any walmart employee I've ever seen to pick out my meats and produce.

I think this idea works for people who have a lot of little kids. You don't have to wrestle with them in and out of the van. You can just pick up the groceries quickly.

And we all know that you only shop at mom and pop stores like Target.

Never said that Target was a mom and pop store. It's not Walmarks though, so it's ok in my book.
