Front page story per ESPN.

I never understood rankings on Sunday. There is no way to thoughtfully watch games and make an informed judgement in one day. Waiting till week 9 or so will render preseason hype meaningless, at least to a large degree. IMO, these are 2 big improvements already.

Regarding our recent 8 game slate decision: On the one hand
quote:

An eight- or nine-game league schedule "is not a big deal [for the selection committee], but strength of schedule is," Hancock said.

on the other hand
quote:

"Ideally," Pac-12 commissioner Larry Scott said, "we would all run the race on a similar course."

Hopefully Mr. Scott will realize we currently run on a different track than everyone else.

Thoughts?

Both great ideas. Good start.

Smart.

I am sure the AP will still release thier irrelevant poll in August and give us all something to talk about but having the rankings when the season is already halfway over makes more sense.

I have a feeling the Coaches and AP poll will go the way of the Dodo bird. Not really sure if there even will be a coaches poll.

Fricking stupid. Why do they need to release their rankings? Does the committee that selects teams for the NCAA tournament do the same thing? No, because it's stupid and they're only doing to to get the buzz out and make money for places like ESPN.

Bec there are only 4 teams that will be selected, not 68.

Teams need to know where they stand.

They addressed this already. The catch word used by officials was 'transparency'. They will release rankings and they will also release who voted for what team. But transparency is the reason.

Still early enough for Oregon to be relevant .

Why do a Top 25 when you only need 4??...

By Oct 28th which is after the 9th week of the season, there's no reason to do more than a Top 10...

I'm not quite sure of this myself. Although it must be said that the committee also has influence on invitee's for the other four rotating bowls. This might be it, not sure.

Maybe a top 16 would suffice?

Agreed. I wonder how many rose from 11-25 to Top 4 in the last few years BCS rankings though, after Week 9.

2013-Final 4
FSU
AU
Bama
Mich St

Auburn was #11, Mich St was unranked on Week 9, which was the first BCS ranking.

They should do just a Top 10... That poll would be special & make the last 5 weeks pretty intense. A CFP final Top 10 ranking would be a pretty sweet carrot for a team & make seeding the bowls just outside of the Top 4+1 interesting...

If they release the votes & points It'll be kinda like now, you know who's 26-27-28 etc...

Dunno... Just call it the TOP 10 to make it a lil more impressive & mean more...
