RIP

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - The University of Alabama has confirmed the death of one of their athletes in the severe weather that struck on Monday night/Tuesday morning.

University officials say junior John Servati was a swimmer for the school. He was taking refuge with a friend in the basement of a home in the 1400 block of 22nd Avenue when a retention wall gave way. Servati was taken to DCH, where he was pronounced deceased.

No other information is available at this time. Stay with this story for more information as it is released.

A retention wall gave away and he was crushed... Definitely due to the severe weather... So sad.

There will be probably be some type of civil action but it's really hard to win a suit like that when a Tornado is involved... The plaintiffs have to prove the wall was in disrepair and that the Tornado wasn't severe enough to make it collapse had it been up to code .

Hate to hear about someone that young losing their life... Just terrible.

It's an older part of town so chances are it was built way back in the 30's or 40's.
