If you are going to Dega for race weekend, be sure to get there Friday before 6:30 and get on the infield. I got an email yesterday advertising "The Big One on the Boulevard."
From the website:
Talk about nekkid redneck heaven. You will probably see more boobs than a mammogram machine at this thing.
From the website:

Talladega Superspeedway’s first ever “Big One on the Blvd.,” a Friday night parade celebrating the wild side of the track’s infamous infield. Talladega Blvd. is considered NASCAR’s “Party Capital,” making it the perfect place to kickoff the Aaron’s Dream Weekend (May 2-4) at NASCAR’s Most Competitive Track.
When the parade gets rolling at 6:45 pm CT on Friday, May 2 at the north end of Talladega Blvd., Sprint Cup drivers Clint Bowyer, Kevin Harvick, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Austin Dillon will be atop the lead float throwing out swag and welcoming fans to NASCAR’s version of Mardi Gras. The parade will make its way down the Blvd., building up excitement as it passes the most colorfully decorated campsites in NASCAR. At the south end of the Blvd. the parade will come to a halt, and from there the party begins.
Following a brief driver Q&A with by ESPN NASCAR Analyst Marty Smith, who will be on hand with local radio personalities detailing the storylines of the Aaron’s Dream Weekend, Talladega’s hungriest fans will battle it out in the track’s inaugural Moonpie Eating Contest. Participants will consume as many of the delicious cakes as they can in a few minutes time.
And just as those fans are cleaning the chocolate and marshmallow from their faces, things are about to get even stickier. In a pit filled with barbecue sauce, Talladega’s bravest fans will have a chance to brawl in the world’s first ever BBQ Sauce Wrestling match. After four rounds of smoky-flavored smack down the victors will join the Moonpie Eating Champion on stage to be honored and interviewed.

Not sure my customers would appreciate an event like that, but I think I just might...
Thank you Spleen

Where are y'all staying? Most of those places I listed are closer to downtown/Southside area. The only one that's not is chuck's Fish which is out in the burbs on Hwy 280. Most of the dinner places are also open for lunch.
And gianmarco's is in Homewood, not the downtown/Southside area.

Bham is a wasteland of fast food places and chain restaurants. Haven't you heard? F&D Board: [ON]
Where are y'all staying and what kind of food/prices y'all want? Some good suggestions in here already. GianMarco's is top notch IMO. You will definitely need reservations there.

Also the Barons are in town that weekend so if y'all are baseball fans the new park downtown is fantastic.

Andouille from the Food board will be here shortly to tell everyone what idiots they are and how every single restaurant in Bham serves food your dog wouldn't eat. Mentioning the words Birmingham and restaurant in the same sentence is like a dog whistle to him.

I just moved down to highland park and I love seeing all these great restaurants that are in walking distance of my apartment

I lived in Highland Park when Rojo first opened and I walked there at least 3 times a week. Pretty sure I eventually tried everything on their menu.

Have you ever been to the hotdog night they do once a month?
Posted on 4/25/14 at 11:08 am to BowlJackson
Nah, I only get to Rojo maybe once a year now since moving out to the burbs.

There are several people on this website that consider New Orleans, LA the center of the food universe. Anything outside of that cannot be considered real food. No one outside of there can have food culture either.
Jim n Nicks is a local BBQ chain. They recently got voted best BBQ chain in America. Surin is a local Thai place with several locations if you're into that.
Highlands Bar n Grill in Southside is good. Cafe DuPont downtown is also good. Hot n Hot Fish Club in Southside has the chef that is supposedly the best in the SouthEast. All will require reservations.
I'd second the Barons recommendation. The food at the park is good. They also serve all the local craft beers on draft. There will be several food trucks at the park as well and they are good (fish tacos from the Cantina truck are awesome). After the game, walk across the street to Good People Brewery and hit their taproom.

Breakfast: I don't really know. I don't think I've ever had breakfast out. The Pancake House in 5 Points is pretty well known. I don't know how good it is.
Lunch: iCantina in Pepper Place. It's not exactly Mexican, not exactly Tex-Mex, but it's a nice place and they have good food. I recommend the Churazco Steak.
Dinner: Highlands Bar and Grill, Bottega, Hot and Hot Fish Club. You can't go wrong with any of them. I'd give Highlands the edge.

I know food is rather subjective, but Highlands Bar & Grill has the chef that is one of the best in the Southeast - Frank Stitt. He also has Chez Fon Fon and is involved with Bottega(can't remember if he's executive chef there or not)
Chris Hastings is the chef at Hot & Hot and is one of the biggest jerks you could ever meet. He learned under Stitt. Last time I ate at Hot & Hot, the food was pretty average and the service was some of the worst I've ever received at a supposed fine dining restaurant.

Agreed. However, I didn't vote for him either.
