Complain about selection committees and BCS, but baseball has it worse.

Baseball America's article on just how flawed the college baseball RPI system is, using Arkansas and Alabama as its examples. Anyone who follows the sport at all knows Arkansas has by far had the hardest conference schedule of any team to this point, yet their RPI and SoS is mediocre. This article does a great job of explaining why, and how it's broken. It's a lengthy article, but if you like college baseball, it's a very good read.

I honestly don't know how you can approve a system that's so blatantly flawed. 5 games against two teams moves your SoS from #1 to #46. Using raw win-loss as the calculator in a sport with so many different teams with such a wide talent gap between conferences is just full retard. But is there any way to fix it?

Ten weeks into the season, the RPI says Arkansas (No. 51) is on the bubble, even though the Hogs have won series against SEC powers Alabama, South Carolina and Vanderbilt, and faced Florida, Mississippi State and LSU on the road without getting swept. Arkansas is 8-7 against the top 25 in the RPI, giving it the third-most top 25 wins of any team (behind only Florida and Kentucky). The Hogs are 10-10 against the top 50.
And the RPI says Indiana State (No. 21) is an NCAA tournament lock with a chance to host a regional, even though the Sycamores are just 1-2 against the top 25 and 2-4 against the top 50. High Point (No. 41) ranks 10 spots higher than Arkansas despite an 0-3 mark against the top 25 and a 1-7 record against the top 50. High Point is 23-16 overall; Arkansas is 25-16. But whose resume is more impressive?

But because opponents’ winning percentage comprises 50 percent of the RPI formula, playing a few games against a team with a horrific winning percentage has a disproportionate impact on RPI. So Arkansas pays a huge price for playing five games against No. 295 Mississippi Valley State (3-29) and No. 300 Grambling State (12-26). As a result, Arkansas ranks 46th in strength of schedule. Remove the three games against MVSU, and its SOS jumps to sixth. Take away the two games against Grambling, and it jumps to No. 1.

Every time we give Arkansas Athletics the benefit of the doubt, they do things like lose to Ohio State, or not make the Sweet Sixteen in 20 years, or choke when the make the CWS.

Hey that's inappropriate. A&M does just fine losing to SEC teams in the CWS. Just ask S. Carolina and LSU.

I'd say A&M can feel our pain but they don't have much experience playing in a BCS bowl or making the sweet sixteen. Hello, most players think Omaha is on the same page as Bigfoot. They have heard of it but have never seen it.

Then don't schedule them. It's that simple.
Someone needs a lesson in how to schedule to maximize one's RPI.
Also, Boyd's World doesn't lie. He's the smartest grinder to ever live - which I realize is not saying much, but still.

College baseball isn't a real sport. Nobody cares.
