Favorite vacation destinations in the Southeast?

I tend to keep going back to the same vacation spots I'm familiar with. Mainly mountains in the East TN and Tampa, FL because I've lived there before.
Any recommendations for vacation spots in the South where you had good experience? I live in Atlanta so 5 hour drive radius in GA, AL, SC, NC, TN, FL would be nice.

Get a nice cabin with a view in the mountains above Blowing Rock, NC.

I'm a simple man. Just give me a beach, a fold out chair and a cooler full of drinks and food and I'm good. IDC where.

Do you prefer more tourist traps or places where you won't see many people?
Charleston is obviously a popular and pretty awesome destination, but you're going to be around a lot of folks. Asheville is another really cool city if you're looking for more of a mountain vacation.
I prefer more secluded vacations so I stick to places like Edisto Island or Beaufort, SC because they're smaller and have less people. Edisto might not be the best idea if you have teenagers because there's not much to do aside from the beach and fishing/boating, so they might get bored easily. From Beaufort it's a pretty easy ride into Hilton Head for the day if you're looking for more stuff to do.
The Blowing Rock/Boone area, as mentioned, is really cool, too.

We live in Atlanta and hit up 30A several times a year. It's a little more than five hours but the beaches are pristine and the water is nice. A lot of good food too.

Sunset Beach, NC. You won't be overrun by tourists, secluded area, good golf and fishing, and you're only about 30-45 minutes from Myrtle Beach if you want the touristy shite or nightlife.

No particular order:
Ozarks, OBX, Myrtle, Charleston.

As far as GA goes, Savannah is always a good time. I'd also suggest visiting Jekyll or CUmberland Island for a quieter, more nature filled beach experience. If you're into hunting, tons of great hunting plantations around middle ga (my particular favorite has been Charlane Plantation in Bullard, GA which is owned and run by Chuck Leavell, a blues musician and the pianist for the Allman Brothers and Rolling Stones).

Most of my suggestions have already been mentioned.
Charleston/Isle of Palms is a favorite, as is Gulf Shores and Destin. Savannah and the Georgia coast is nice. If you want to really get away and like camping, try Cumberland Island.
Beaufort, SC is nice - very quiet, quaint little town with some nice beaches around and also a nice side trip over to the museum at Parris Island. Hilton Head isn't bad either.
