Still hearing Southern Miss and Mizzou are eying SFA's UnderwoodRetweeted by Brian Austin

Stephen F. Austin coach Brad Underwood, a former Kansas State assistant for six seasons under Bob Huggins and Frank Martin, has not been contacted by Missouri, though Underwood told The Star on Tuesday that he’d be interested.

“That’s an unbelievable job,” he said. “That’s my type of job. The basketball aside, it’s been a great spot for many years with a ton of great players. It’s a great university, but I’m still the coach at Stephen F.”

For the love of god Southern Miss please hire Brad Underwood so Mike Alden doesn't kill the Mizzou basketball program. I'm going to have to GOOGLE this son of a bitch too

What's wrong with Underwood?

I mean, Michael White is a hot name after three seasons as a head coach with two NITs.

SFA went 32-3 this season and won a game in the tourney.

Why would he say this in the media?

What is easily forgotten is Gregg Marshall hasn't publically declined interest in the job, and a possible meeting has already been arranged last night when Wichita State played Mizzou at Kauffman Stadium. Also Wichita State holds an awards banquet Thurs. night so maybe Marshall is just waiting until Friday to accept the job.

Or Alden is trying to find anyone to say "yes", like a HS senior 2 days before prom.

Marshall doesn't have to publicly decline interest in the job, it isn't an expectation that Marshall should have to publicly turn down an at best equal job.

Tim Floyd begged for the job
Brad Underwood wants the job
Tim Fuller would want the job
Kim Anderson wants the job
Someone who closely follows Gregg Marshall said he would be interested in the position

Mizzou is not struggling to find candidates for the job, Alden is being thorough in his evaluation this time to avoid another Frank Haith situation, and using a search firm to weed out potential candidates who would bring negative publicity to the university. Mizzou has the money to spend with having a $6 million dollar surplus for this fiscal year. "Gregg Marshall is still the top choice for the job, the number is still higher than $2.5 million and a source close to KTGR said Missouri does not want to get much beyond $3 million for a potential hire. There is no knowledge yet on whether a meeting has taken place between Marshall or his agent and Mizzou Athletics."

using a search firm

Yeah, coaching searches are always going great when Search firms are brought in...

Search firms are like handlers in AAU ball, except the candidates pay them to get to a school instead of a school paying the them to get a recruit to a school.

"The information is still weak on candidates like Chris Mack or Archie Miller as it seems like Missouri is waiting for an answer on Marshall to make its next move"

A search firm is pure Alden.

Test the wind, check the terra firma. Search firms. Legal counsel. Plausible deniability.

I am cautiously optimistic that on Friday we will hear

"Marshall at MIzzou!"

There seem to be several quality coaches interested in the job. I would not be unhappy with Howland or Anderson,

I think Anderson would be a big mistake.

If we're going the no experience route, go Fuller.

Just saying I would not be unhappy, does not mean he would be my first pick. but I can't bad mouth a True Son.

Awesome reporting.

In other news, the808bass is a candidate to coach at Mizzou. Haven't been contacted, but it's a great job and I'd be interested. I will come cheap at $1.5M.
