Just rewatched the spring game. Flowers looked dang good. He was all over the place and closed fast to the ball. Hopefully, he can be some needed depth at LB this fall.

It seems pretty obvious that the key to improving our defense is LB play.

I think the DLine will be in beast mode pretty much all year, and the DBs will be solid. But if we are going to start to see lower PPG and YPG totals, the LBs will have to step up.

A lot of talk amongst the Rantards is how we were 'lucky' because we won a lot of close games, and that we won't get those kind of breaks this year. the fact is the reason a lot of those games were close in the first place was either (a) an inability of the offense to get a key first down in a critical situation or (2) the defense giving up a big play while we were protecting a lead.

Even marginal improvement in both of these areas will turn those 'close games' we won by getting 'lucky bounces' into solid wins by comfortable margins. Improved play and some additional solid depth will have as much an effect on (2) as a more consistently effective passing game will have on (a).

C'mon, August!
