I saw this today and I think it's a great question.

I fully support gay marriage by the way.

People should get to marry whoever the hell they want as far as the government is concerned. If churches don't want to hold a ceremony for a gay couple then that is their business.

It shouldn't be "they", as in Christians. It should be "they" as in christian social conservatives.

I could get with this, though I think government should be out of the marriage business entirely.

Agreed with this. I think from a government standpoint they should since the USA does not have a national religion, it is immoral to illegalize something for religious reasons. Now if churches and crap want to not give them a service thats different

I always thought it was funny that my relationship with God and my spouse could be reconciled by an official state document.

^^^This is stupid!

We as a culture did not invent freedom but we all sure as hell want to define it.

If its God given it's already defined.

I don't.

It's hard to argue against the value of a two parent home. Those communities with higher marriage rates also tend to be more affluent and the children have more successful outcomes. The government promoting marriage through tax policy and message is for the good of society IMO.

I think the religious should view it like the Catholic Church though. They don't care about your government marriage, the only one that matters is within the Church. So churches can marry who they please and recognize the marriages they please.

Everyone (should be) is happy and we all win.

Government shouldn't be defining marriage period. If a church chooses to marry a couple, or not marry a couple, then that is their belief and should be respected as separate from the government.

What's funny is state's starting issuing said documents as a way to keep whites and blacks from marrying each other.

Same sex couples can't procreate, with one another.

Being married shouldn't create a tax break, over those who aren't. Gov't shouldn't be involved at all in the marriage business. People can get lawyers and have civil contracts drawn up for their legal issues.. i.e. power of attorney, property disbursement, etc..

Here is how I feel about the issue: I don't care what 2 people do together. It's none of my damn business, but if you think it is only Christians that have a problem with it, you better think again.

Neither can infertile couples, straight couples that do everything to prevent procreation because they have no desire for children, or elderly couples...

I didn't use them as an excuse for giving them tax breaks.

Why is it limited to Christians? Are there any religions that support gay marriage?

I have a friend with gay parents. I have a cousin with lesbian parents. It doesn't mater. Both are normal and aren't bothered.
