Title in any sport? Stupid thread title too long.

This has been brought up recently a few times recently. Spurrier mentioned when LSU won the SEC but 'Bama won the national title a few years ago that "It is harder to win the SEC then the national title"

In the spirit of that quip how many times has SEC team X won the conference but SEC team Y went on to win the national title?

I know SC has been involved in this a couple of teams recently.

1) 2014 Equestrian - SC wins the SEC ; UGA wins the National title.
2) 2010 Baseball - UF wins the SEC ; SC wins National title (LSU won SEC tourny title that year FWIW, 1st time that 3 SEC teams had that little cycle)
3) 2000 Baseball - SC wins the SEC ; LSU wins the National title.

I figured 21-0 was already well known, and that's why I referenced Spurrier's quote towards it. Just seeing about other, less known, occurrences of this happening.

I seem to recall one team falling backassward into the NC game without winning the SEC. Don't remember who though, they got lucky.

Bama won the SEC in Gymnastics this year and lost to Florida in the National Championship.

Ole Miss claims the 1959 football championship, even though Georgia won the SEC title that year.

I don't think it is uncommon in other sports.

UF won basketball title in 2006, didn't win the SEC (although we did win SEC tournament).

UF won back to back titles in men's outdoor track in 2012 and 2013, didn't win the SEC title either year. Also won indoor track 2010, 2011 and 2012; only won the SEC in one of those years.

Tennessee was 5-0 in the SEC in 1951
Georgia Tech was 7-0 in the SEC in 1951

Tennessee won the national championship.

UT is still considered a conference "co-champion" for 1951, but consider their SEC schedules:

UT: Miss St., @ Bama, @ Ole Miss, @ Kentucky, Vanderbilt
GT: @ Florida, @ Kentucky, Auburn, @ Vanderbilt, @ Bama, and Georgia

It's probably happened a bunch of times in track and field.
