Today is Patriots Day in the state of Massachusetts. It's obvious what that means and has been a source of pride for those people. The whole state takes the day off.

My question to all Georgians is:

If the state of Georgia had a state holiday that was to be a source of pride for ALL Georgians, what would it be?

Something that didn't have to do with race, civil rights, Civil War, or any of that shite. I mean something uniquely from the state of Georgia that can be celebrated.

Forgive my ignorance, but I can't think of a thing that is unique for all citizens of Georgia, other than being, you know, Georgians.

Would we just call it Georgia Day?

Empire State of the South Day?

"frick you Alabama, we got the airport" Day?

(for those who don't know, at one time there was a mad scramble between Atlanta and Birmingham to see who be the major airport hub of the south.

Guess who won? )

Hey we could hold a Torie day since most Georgians were British loyalist and opposed the revolutionary war...

What a bunch of hypocritical horseshite.......

Massachusettes celebrates their secession from Great Britain and the successful defense from the invasion which tried to prevent it...............all while conveniently ignoring that they themselves did the EXACT same thing to the Southern states when they tried to secede a few decades later.

If they consider themselves "patriots" for seceding and defending their homes from invasion.....then what do they call themselves for helping to invade the South for doing the exact same thing?????.......What do they call themselves for purposefully targeting civilians, women, and children.....burning churches, and homes and entire cities along the way to prevent what they are proud of themselves for doing a few decades earlier????!

I sure as hell know what I call that......

frick you Massachusettes.

I always thought that Jerry Springer could host an MLK family reunion day.

I'm sure that the state of Georgia can embrace what remains of the King family legacy.

I'm sorry but that offends me...

fact is...this state is and will forever be tied to that war...those that don't like it...fail to understand it...kinda like getting rid of the old flag...cause it was racist and tied to the Confederacy

the idiots just don't even realize they got duped when the "Confederate Flag" was gotten rid of...

Current Ga State Flag

Confederate Stars and Bars

only the uneducated would fall for this...or suggest a holiday for the state that doesnt have something to do with "that shite"

This is my point. Good luck finding anything about this state that ALL would be proud of, or not offended by.

Based on the responses to this point, no one else can think of anything either, except of course, Peanut Day. But then, those allergic to peanuts probably wouldn't like it either.

First off, who cares about not offending "everyone"? It's an aimless and stupid goal. And so are state sanctioned holidays, imo.

But, let's take a closer look at the squeaky-clean all-uniting joyous holiday example you are gloating over up in hypocritical yankee Massachusetts, "Patriot's Day".

Did you know that Massachusetts still had slavery at that time during the American Revolution??.........and that Massachusetts was the single biggest player in the slave-trade of all the colonies at that time??

Tell me. How do you think the black population of Mass. would feel about "Patriot's Day" if they looked at the history of that holiday through the same lens as you see Georgia's history???

It's like your head is stuck in your arse on this one...................North good and pure. South dirty and evil. This thread is embarassing....

Probably the same way that many black people have viewed or view the fourth of July.

What are you basing this on? Population of slaves? Percentage of slaves compared to population at the time?

Not I, or I would not have started this thread that obviously has drummed up some recessed anger out of you.

No, I just stated that they had this state sponsored holiday. I never said anything about that it was right, wrong, pure, hypocritical, or whatever. Your words not mine.

Noooooooo, really? (sarcasm font)

How in the hell did you bridge the gap between asking a question about a holiday and interpreting that into the South is dirty and evil?

I'm basing it on the fact that Massachusetts was at the center of the slave trade in the american colonies for more than a century.

Evil Southerners didn't get on boats and sail down to Africa to kidnap blacks from the jungle to bring them back to their cotton fields. It was a business. A very profitable one. ONe that was ran by the northern colonies.......with Massachusetts at the center of the profitable market.

The yankees sent the slave-ships down to Africa, the Africans thenkidnapped their own people from the inner jungles and traded for them, and then the yankees sold the slaves that survived the voyage back to america to Virginians, New Jersey gueedos, Deleware people, Georgians, etc.

Lot of wealth was made by the hypocrites of New England with this business. But, you don't ever hear about that do you? Remember.....north pure and good. South dirty and evil.

Margaret Mitchell day?

She wrote what was at one point the 2nd most popular book on Earth behind the Bible, and still remains an all time literary classic and one of the greatest films of all time. The subject matter may offend some, but she just presented what life was like at the time. it's not like she personally had anything to do with it. Unlike sports figures, or political figures, she seems like someone the state could get behind.

Oh, and we're related

The premise of the thread, backed up by all the suburban atlantans responding, seems to be that Georgia's history is nothing but slavery and racism and bumpkins and ignorance...........does it not?

I find this attitude and lack of appreciation to be pretty disturbing.

And so it boiled my blood. Deal with it.
