Georgia coaches were to meet Friday with the strength and conditioning staff to talk about the change which allows eight hours a week of required preparations for the season.
That includes running, lifting weights and up to two hours a week for film study with coaches.
“One thing that will be different is this is the first year in a long time that all strength and conditioning activity is mandatory now,” coach Mark Richt said. “There’s eight hours of activity per week that’s mandatory, similar to what you have in the spring prior to spring ball.”

This should have been mandatory the whole time. I wonder how other schools handle summer workouts and training

They are voluntary everywhere, I know LSU would shame you for missing them. There was that picture going around of John Chavis' office, he put a sign that said "Dear NFL Scouts, the following players miss workouts and don't take football seriously" or something to that effect, followed by a list of names of guys that skipped voluntary practice.

What's the going rate for gym membership and personal trainers?

student privileges get you use of work out spots on campus other than the sports ones.
Personal trainers costs vary depending on how much shite they are full of, but they are never mandatory unless it is part of ones work.

what if I want to go hame and get a job for the summer or do an....lol... internship?

I like the additional time that coaches can spend with the players, but ultimately the players have to decide whether or not they want to put in the extra work to become better players during their down time.

So you're in favor of slavery? They should get all the benefits but not have to suffer through any additional expectations..... its the new American Way!

Spoken like a true Liberal Democrat. (I realize you're being facetious, but I know folks that actually think that way, and they vote)

I mean the time that they don't spend with the coaches. For example, sleep in on a Sunday or get up and go work on your craft.

Loving the changes in this offseason. More intensity, more practice, more discipline is exactly what we need to be competitive.

Have we had more practice? Have we had more discipline? Have we had more intensity?
So far, there hasn't been any more practice. I don't know where you get that from.
As far as discipline, we've had 4 players arrested.
As far as intensity, in the 2013 spring practice we had daily reports of guys getting in fights due to intense practices, to the point the coaches stopped breaking them up, just let the guys have it out until the other players decided to break it up, and we here at dawgrant loved it... loved the intensity. If anything, the practices are less-intense this year.

That may be true lol but I just like to see the positives and be hopeful.

You know, you're right. I'm in favor of paying all D1 athletes the minimum wage and pulling all scholarship support.
Would that satisfy the people who insist on destroying amatuer athletics?

No, student fees get students access to the Ramsey Center. Yes, they are mandatory fees for all resident students, but access is purchased.
I haven't seen the workout facility in BM in years, but it used to be way nicer than Ramsey (or any other gym in Athens). I'd guess a membership to a gym of BM's caliber would be quite expensive.

Why are you so uppity and arrogant in regard to student athletes?
Posted on 4/19/14 at 6:36 pm to deeprig9
Im sorry, did you have something substantive to say, or are you just throwing out insults because you don't like the points I am making?

You made points? What were they?

I think I see why you left yourself out of that "smart person list" in your sig.
