It's just a testament to how bad the 1991 Alabama offense was by the end of the season. They came into the game at 10-1 and ranked #8 in the country, yes, but they really sucked on offense. For instance, at the end of the first half of the 1991 Blockbuster Bowl, Alabama and Colorado had less than 100 yards....COMBINED.

1991 Alabama is one of those statistical anomalies that you just shake your head at. They were pretty awesome against the cream puffs (41-3 over Temple; 48-17 over Vanderbilt; 53-7 over UT-Chattanooga; 62-0 over Tulane), but really struggled against SEC competition.

Their SEC schedule looked like this:

L @ Florida (0-35)
W vs. Georgia (10-0)
W @ Vanderbilt (48-17)
W vs. Tennessee (24-19)
W vs. Mississippi State (13-7)
W @ LSU (20-17)
W vs. Auburn (13-6)

They even came close to losing to Memphis two weeks before the Iron Bowl, eking out a 10-7 victory over the Tigers.

Sounds like maybe the 2nd worst offensive performance by an SEC team in a bowl game ever..

Yep. Except we won our bowl game. Thank God for David Palmer.

That 62-0 game against Tulane is my earliest memory at BDS. Guess I was about five years old. Pretty cool.
