More likely he wants to recruit in Arkansas but I found this interesting nonetheless. I didn't realize "people" thought Haith and Anderson was a good rivalry. I mistakenly assumed it was Mizzou vs Anderson.

Haith wants #Arkansas to play #Tulsa: "People talk about the rivalry Mike (Anderson) and I have; we'd like to keep it going, Michael!"

When was the last time we played Tulsa in basketball?

I was trying to think of a time last night, but couldn't come up with anything.

I now we are annual opponents with one another in football at one time.

I wouldn't mind to continue playing them in football, if the staff is going to put any effort into recruiting the Tulsa area. Basketball, however, is a dry hole, not real great players out of the area that I can recall since Mayberry.

We've actually played them 60 times total with the last game coming in 2007. Only 12 times total however since Nolan took over.

Basically, 12 times in the last 30 years.

I could remember some games, as I believe we played them when Smith was HC as well as Self.

IIRC we played ORU practically every year when Self was there, then Tulsa with Self, and that led to playing Illinois with Self. Sounds great if you buy the Heath was chosen over Self theory of yesteryear, but the idea of doing this with Haith in an effort to attract him as HC whenever in the future will give little kids nightmares at night.

Those will little kids do not want to have to put in the "Check to see if Frank Haith is under the bed" in the night time routine.

Roads to Arkansas can and do go through Tulsa it seems. We had Nolan get here through that route and who knows in the future it may be Malzahn or someone else.

Edit~and a Happy Good Friday to the lurker for the down votes.

On the one hand, I'd love to see y'all kick the crap out of them every year. The other side says there's a lot more upside to such a series for Tulsa than there is for Arkansas.

We used to have a good series vs. Tulsa in both basketball and football and the basketball rivalry probably had a lot to do with Nolan leaving there to coach here.

Completely agree. It's kind of like how Memphis won't play us anymore. There was way more upside to that series for us than there was for them

The only upside for Arkansas is if Haith can keep them respectable, it would be a great "numbers" game, meaning good for the RPI, SOS, and a close enough road game that the fan base can attend.

Those three areas seem to matter come selection time.

The down side is it gives Tulsa a presence in the state and they are now in a semi-reputable conference, basketball wise.

As far as recruiting it would hurt UA-LR, UCA, and stAte more than Arkansas. Arkansas wouldn't gain anything from Tulsa as far as basketball recruiting, mainly because Lee Mayberry had only girls.
