Alden should focus on a guy that is perfect for the fans, not the brand.
Case in point: Kim Anderson.
He's a winner, he's mature, he's a native son, if hired he would retire a Mizzou Tiger, and I guarantee that he would win at least the first round game in the NCAA tournament.
He'd be the second coming of Norm Stewart. Plus, he probably has at least 10 years of coaching left in him which is plenty of time to re-establish Mizzou as a respectable program that isn't meant to be a stepping stone.
Why not give that guy a chance?
Alden shouldn't be thinking of a homerun hire...he should be thinking of hiring a person who people in Missouri embrace. Very few people would fault Alden for hiring a guy who just won the DII National Championship for a Misssouri university, a guy that is LOVED in the state of Missouri, a guy that was an assistant coach on Norm's team.
Jesus, this should be a no brainer. Don't go for the "homerun hire". Go for winning over the fans with their idea of a "homerun hire".
I guarantee you Kim Anderson would sellout the arena. That's what we need to focus on at this point. Get the people in the seats again, give them a native son to cheer for once again, and then the players will take notice and play their hearts out for the roaring crowd.
But, mark my words...Alden will frick this up. He'll hire for the "brand" rather than for the "fans".
Anyone who doesn't know who Kim Anderson is:
Head coach at Central Missouri State University. Just won the DII National Championship. Native Missouri son. Was an assistant coach to the legendary Mizzou coach Norm Stewart.

I don't see why you're so resigned to the fact that Kim Anderson couldn't be an elite coach because of his small school background and age.
Bo Ryan is 66 and he is okay at coaching basketball.

Jeff Goodman of ESPN said when contacted Kim Anderson said he knew when he was passed over for Mike Anderson he would never take it if offered. That being said he probably doesn't have a clue what would come out of his mouth if that call came. But that call won't be coming.

Probaby true. Our AD is the reason our basketball program has drained into the gutter.
I don't get his snobbery of hiring a proven native son who has won BIG already.
What an a-hole to think that Mizzou will make some sort of "homerun hire" given the last three hires he's made:
Quin Snyder
Mike Anderson
Frank Haith
We doomed.

Anderson was a home run hire for Mizzou.
At that time Anderson had already turned down Tennessee, Auburn, and UGA.
While at Mizzou he turned down Auburn again, Tennessee again, Bama, Memphis, and Oregon.
Had the Arkansas job not opened and expressed interest to him, he would still be at Mizzou.

He wasnt Norms top guy. It was Daley because they both threw Sundvold under the bus for the Detroit stuff. It was Daley also who was the reason they were put on probation.

By get it over with you mean the basketball program correct?
Posted on 4/18/14 at 11:07 am to MIZ_COU
Do you really believe that Kim Anderson would ruin the basketball program?
Who do you believe we can hire? How much will it cost us to make said hire? If we pay 3 mil for a homerun hire coach, won't we have to increase Pinkel's pay as well? Do you think that will actually happen?
