Tennessee will officially announce plans to complete an all-inclusive studio, production bay and regional office for the SEC Network by August. Work began on this project earlier this year. The network, which is based on Charlotte, will operate out of the Knoxville facility 24/7, 365.
With today's announcement Tennessee is the first school with the ability to produce in house video for the network and will have an SEC Network studio on campus. Other schools are in the process of building similar facilities. SEC Network executives have made it clear that schools who invest in these facilities will receive priority when it comes to selecting what events to air on the network. Right now it is believed Tennessee will be the only school with full production and distribution capabilities when the network launches.
The SEC Network is likely to follow the B1G Network's example in providing the schools with all of the necessary equipment (HD cameras, etc.) to produce their own games. In the first year of the B1G Network they handled production in-house and it cost them $350K per game. The next year they provided equipment to the schools and their cost per game decreased to $30K.
From VQ.
Official announcement expected this evening. Supposedly it is a $2.5M studio inside the new football training center. Should be a big boost, especially until other schools finish theirs.

What are the other schools doing this?

I bet Butch loves this temporary boost in exposure potential

Our was very likely the easiest to set up. We already had one helluva an A/V setup. SEC Network likely didn't have to spend squat hooking us up.

A&M's is going in the back of the Bright Complex which will connect to Kyle Field once the renovation is complete.

Eventually every SEC school will have one. At least, that's what I remember the plan being. I think it was just very cheap and easy to set ours up because we already had most of it. Our AV is gooood.

aTm I believe for sure. I would assume Bama will build one too some time soon.

Also Knoxville has plenty of trained tv people who know how to launch a new network and produce TV quality work. HGTV, DIY, Food Network, Travel Channel, Cooking Channel are all HQ'd here w/Scripps.

A&M will for sure have one, because like Tennessee, we can easily afford it.

Jesus Christ, so now these football HQs are going to have their own TV studios built in? I'm starting to think CFB has jumped the shark

Don't hate the wealthy schools just because jawja can't afford one.

I'd have to guess Mizzou would be a pretty easy setup given the broadcast journalism setups in the J School. I wonder if they'd put it at the NBC facility or if it would be on campus.
ETA: Probably the same with Bama, if they're going that route. Almost positive Mizzou and Bama are the only schools that own commercial broadcast stations. I don't know if Bama's station does news, though.

You've got to be joking, right? UGA has one of the most sizable bank accounts in all of college athletics. Last I checked, we had a $60million surplus of funds. We may be run by some cheap SOBs, but we are very, very far from a poor program.

You know that isn't possible - we're going bankrupt!

Tennessee had 104k capacity stadium since 1996. Almost 20 years later, others will follow

When HGTV first launched I remember falling love with it. About a year into it, I noticed some of the houses looked awfully familiar on one of the shows and the accents sounded a lot like Knoxville's. It was a year or two before I figured out they were local.
Knoxville actually has a pretty long production history tho. Before it went bankrupt, we had Whittle Communications (Channel One which launched Anderson Cooper and which put tv's in every classroom). And we've HQ'd Regal Cinemas for ages - we sometimes get premieres complete with Hollywood stars because of it.
Before then a lot of wrasslin' got launched here.
ETA: Almost forgot - Dish Network was founded by an Alum.

UGA could buy A&M's football program 10x over

Has Cook talked about this on TexAgs Radio or something? Sounds vaguely familiar.
