Studies prove it now.

quote:

Babies show racial bias, study finds

Babies are more likely to choose playmates of their own ethnicity in a phenomenon known as 'in-group bias'

quote:

Babies show racial bias when picking playmates, a study suggests.

Infants aged 15 months normally choose a playmate who is perceived as being fair, sharing toys equally for example, regardless of that person’s colour.

But if a baby sees a person of the same race as them unfairly distribute toys in a way that benefits another of their race then the baby wants to be playmates with that person.

Babies are also more likely to help those of their ethnicity, an effect known as in-group bias, where people favour those with the same characteristics.

quote:

The study, published in the journal Frontiers in Psychology, found that when it came to picking a playmate, the babies picked the fair researcher less often when the unfair one had given more toys to the white recipient rather than the Asian one.

The researchers concluded that this implied babies could take into account both race and social history when deciding which person to play with.

People naturally like people that look like them? Shocking

I've always made the argument that it's an inherent trait and not a learned one. For instance: As a baby I liked blondes. I had no reason to, but I always identified with blondes more than any other women.

That aside: Even here in Mexico, young children will identify white babies as good, attractive and noble and black babies as the exact opposite.

It really is bizarre.

Babies dont have the cognitive ability to make those judgements yet.

If I only chose white women to lie down with in a biblical sense, does this make me a flaming racist?

Of course it doesn't. Racism to me is illogical dislike of other races. I think most people naturally are drawn to people of their own race, be it in friendly or business interactions, whether they admit it or not.

People aren't born racist. They're born into racist families that ingrain that shite into them from an early age, which is just sick.

Of course, and it branches out into similar likes, beliefs and other similarities.

Now if I said I only chose white women because they smell better, whoold on.. (hypothetically speaking towards the thread topic, of course)

“Racism connotes hostility and that’s not what we studied.

“What the study does show is that babies use basic distinctions, including race, to start to cleave the world apart by groups of what they are and aren’t a part of.”

If I'd said, bigots are born that way, would it have been better?

This is so absurd. All it proves is that babies can be discrimanatory....at best. Huge difference between discrimination resulting in predudice and discrimination morphing into racism. Everyone on this earth is predudice to some degree or another whether it be torwards skin color, obesity, tattoos, smokers,etc..

Agree.

Agree, halfway.

The other half is people who have absolutely no racist leanings whatsoever, but by the time they hit young adulthood and their formative years and actually experience "the world" a little bit..they form their own opinions. Which for some people, may not be so favorable towards a certain group.

It's definitely a stretch to say all racists are only that way because their parents made them that way.
