Believes UT's top 3 is Howland, Cronin and Mack (after the Marshall and Smarts of the world)

It's no secret Howland wants back in the game. You sign him, and you have an unquestioned top 4 coach in the league. Something we haven't had since Pearl's departure.

Talk about pulling shite out your arse. Ben Howland is a good coach but top 4?
UCLA hadn't been relevant since '07 just so you know.

Anyone got the skinny on what happened that caused the collapse after his last Final Four?
Posted on 4/15/14 at 3:17 pm to blackrose890
He ran out of Steve Lavin's talent.

IIRC, team discipline became a big problem. The players totally quit listening to him and openly disrespected him at practice, etc.
Big article in sports illustrated about it at one time if I recall

1 National Championship Appearance
3 final fours
3 PAC 10 Championships
2 PAC 10 Tournament Championships
2 Big East Championships
1 Big East Tournament Championships
1 Naismith National Coach of the Year
1 Big East Coach of the Year
1 Pac 10 Coach of the year
1 Big Sky Coach of the year
I don't think top 4 is a stretch. Only Cal and Donovan would be considered more accomplished.

1. Cal
2. Donovan
3. ????????
I really have no clue after that, mike fricking Anderson?
I guess Vandy's coach might could argue for top 4, I don't think Haith can

Pearl is 3rd. Howland is better than Pearl imo, but I could live with ranking him 4th.

Well I wasn't considering Pearl for whatever reason, guess I'm still working off of last year

Are we talking overall? x's and o's?
But I'll bite
Billy Donovan
John Calipari
Bruce Pearl
Frank Martin
You can argue Howland because of past accomplishments, but he hadn't done a damn thing at UCLA since 2007. That's 7 years ago.

1. Cal and Donovan (I prefer Billy D, but Cal's methods are effective.)
3. Pearl
4. - 14. A jumbled mesh of second rate nobodies.

Yeah he really struggled identifying and signing talent.
Jordan Farmar, Arron Aflalo, Kevin Love, Russell Westbrook (while not highly rated), Darren Collison, Shabazz Muhammad, etc. were bums.

Martin? Hell no, has never won with his own players

An Elite 8 at a respectable basketball school, and a sub .500 record at USC. A sub .500 record with today's watered down schedules is horrendously bad.
I agree with your top 3.

Maybe I'm alone but I think Howland is severely overrated. His slow as frick offense would get abused by the more athletic defenses in the SEC.

Oh i'm just asking...i'd put him in the top 4 if hired.
we can disagree on who is in the top 4.

the SEC isn't exactly a who's who of coaching right now... after BD and Cal, it's all open for interpretation.
