The map shows how Africa (30,3 million km²) is larger than the combination of China (9,6 million km²), the US (9,4 million km²), Western Europe (4,9 million km²), India (3,2 million km²) and Argentina (2,8 million km²), three Scandinavian countries and the British Isles (map gives no surface for these last two areas).

And, as I understand it, more die from dirty water related illness than aids and malaria combined.

Yes. It is impossible to portray a round earth on a flat surface without distortion. Someone has to get the geographical shaft, and that someone has been Africa by and large for centuries

It's probably a coincidence that they got the shaft on the maps created by those that gave them the shaft in real life.

If you're looking for me to defend Europe's treatment of colonial Africa, you're barking up the wrong tree

It's like the people in Africa were there first, but they're a century behind everybody else in technology.

Just subtle enough to almost be serious. I laughed.

If you're a woman born in Africa, you have about a 70% lifetime risk of being raped. It is estimated that 85% of all the world's rape victims currently live in Sub-Saharan Africa.

It doesn't help that every bug that evolved alongside us and is capable of killing us resides there

Africa has worms that crawl up your penis while you're swimming, insects that burrow into your skin and lay their eggs and protists that live in fluid in your eye.

I think centuries of foreign invasion and occupation, a raping of natural and human resources, slavery, and puppet dictators might have more to do with it than bugs.

And there a few, if any, domesticable animals native to subsaharan Africa. If you look at the concentration of world power throughout the centuries, it directly correlates with the availability of domesticable animals in that region at that time
