Well this will be my first trip to my second home in North Miss, but it is a homecoming non the less and I need some friendly advice.

I have a work trip to Jackson this week and first and for most I am going to be seeing the Miss Braves game on Thursday night. Where should I stay and where should I eat/drink?

The next week I am flying into memphis and driving to Tupelo for a meeting. I have a room booked at the Inn at Ole Miss. I have always wanted to visit OM and need some advice on what to see, eat and drink. I tend to walk to places instead of driving so any advice is greatly appreciated.

Eat: Chicken-on-a-stick (if drunk), Ajax, Boure, and of course BBB for breakfast.

Drink: City Grocery (also awesome food) or Burgundy Room. If you want to get weird, The Library.

I live in Jackson but only for the last 6 months or so. I'm not the best to give Jackson advice.

I will say that some good places to eat are
Julep - Not really sure how to describe the food they serve. It's just great.
Keifer's - Mediterranean. If you've never had it before don't knock it. It's pretty great.
Jaco's Tacos - guess
Sal and Mookie's - Pizza

Depending on where your staying, Mama Hamil's is about 10 minutes outside of jackson in Ridgeland and it's an amazing buffet of home southern cooking.

Where are you working? Traffic downtown can be a huge bitch in the early morning. If you are working there then it would be good to stay downtown and you could mostly just walk to work. Otherwise staying outside of town might be the best course.

It is a small lab and not sure of where it is to be honest. Meeting shouldn't be within traffic times so I wouldnt have to worry. I normally like to stay places that I can park at the hotel and walk to nearby bars/restaurants.

It is bad, but at least it's easy to navigate.

The outside looks pretty good now that the construction is finished.. The inside is still God awful though.

I fly in there a bunch and while it is nothing great the only flight to tupelo is on "Silver Airlines". Not placing a foot on one of their aircraft

It's a little more expensive, but if you can swing it, stay at the Fairview Inn in Jackson.

Places to eat in Jackson:

Parlor Market (expensive)
Walker's (expensive)
Babalu- one of my favs (reasonable)
Julep- get the fried chicken (reasonable)
Pizza shack (reasonable)
Sal and Mookies (reasonable)
Keifer's- good gyro (cheap)

Bars:
Fondren Pub
Fenians (Irish Pub)
The Bulldog

Pretty much this but would amend to include Pig & Pint. Pretty good new BBQ joint that just opened in Fondren.

Update:

Had a great trip to Jackson. I had totally forgotten that the Braves have a minor league team there. I stayed across the street from the park and walked over for thirsty thursday. Braves lost, but it was a blast. I misjudged thinking that the restaurant in the hotel would still be open. Went to bed with many beers in the stomach and no food.

I am arriving in Oxford tomorrow. Staying at The Inn at Ole Miss. Glad to see the Grove is right there. I assume that downtown is a short walk away? Is a 34 yr old going to stick out in any of the places I go? Any final suggestions?
