His contract paid him $15,000 a year, plus one percent of the ticket sales.
Steve Moore, the vice chancellor for marketing and communications for the Texas A&M University System, said that "probably wouldn't be bad right now."
According to the inflation calculator from the U.S. Bureau of Labor, his base pay would have $130,918.77 in 2014 buying power.

Didn't know that tidbit. Interesting.

1 percent of tickets sales would be pretty good today.

How long until a Bama fan breaks in and steals that contract?

even though its only 130k adjusted to current, thats a lot for a coach then

Its 550K with a 100K seat stadium, 7 home games, and an average ticket price of 75$.

Stoops makes like 2.2 million. That's 20-25 percent of his base. Take away 20-25 percent of your own base salary every month and let me know if that's peanuts

The rest of his salary was bagged and dropped on recruits land from airplanes.

Back in Bryant's time at TAMU, it was probably worth tens of dollars every year.

quote:That is my point. Kentucky has about a 67,000 capacity stadium, and it is not always sold out. If they average 60,000 tickets sold per game, at $75 per ticket (which is probably high), he would be making $315,000, less than 15% (i.e. peanuts) of his current salary, before any bonuses. People acting like the coaches would be raking it in if their salary were $140,000 plus 1% of ticket sales (Bryant's contract in today's dollars) are not seeing the bigger picture.

No one is is saying they would be making 140K. It would be 1% of ticket sales on top of their current salaries.
