So apparently Saban is letting other recruits play multiple sports. I know he has been letting recruits run track but now letting one play baseball if he commits to us? Why is he now letting Terry Godwin play baseball but when we were recruiting Jamis Winston he said no to him. Which essentially eleminated any opportunity for us to get a commitment from him. I have heard if Saban would have let him play baseball, Winston would have committed to Alabama.

Terry Godwin
Tidbits from his visit paraphrased from BOL:

-Visited with his parents and younger sister
-Wants to play baseball and CNS said that he was fine with that. (UGA fans, is he planning on playing baseball at UGA?)
-Coach Napier's (WRs coach) brother is the OC at Callaway HS.
-Plans on going to G day and A day.

Maybe he learned his lesson after the JW thing.

100% untrue. CNS was the first coach to tell him he could play both sports and submitted a plan to him and his family as to how it would work. JW chose FSU because of Craig

ETA: if we screwed up JW's recruitment it was by going after Gunner Kiel in parallel instead of focusing exclusively on JW

Maybe your right. I just remember hearing that Saban doesn't want his recruits playing other sports such as basketball and baseball. I knew he didn't mind other players on track.

It's just one of those things that circulated around message boards enough that it got accepted as fact. "Saban won't let players play another sport". After signing Brown and Marlon, now it's "Saban won't let players play another sport except track"

He never said no to Winston. His high school coach said as much. With baseball being the deciding factor, FSU had a better program.

Yep. One of the Rivals reporters stated that our baseball field and facilities really hurt us with a top football prospect (i.e. JW)

Dont listen to people who claim they know what they are talking about on the recruiting board

Thanks guys. That clears it up for me. Last question Why did we not get Winston then? How can we let someone go that close to Tuscaloosa.

Combination of:

- his dad really liked FSU and Craig
- Craig negative recruiting about black QBs at Bama
- FSU with better baseball program and facilities
- FSU QB job opening up 1 year before Bama's
- we recruited Kiel along with JW whereas FSU focused only on JW

The ACC allows guys to play professional baseball and other sports at the college. The SEC doesn't.
