Notre Dame hasn't played an SEC team in the regular season in nearly a decade.

The school appears ready to stop the drought.

Georgia and Notre Dame are working to finalize a home-and-home series, according to a source, possibly for 2018-19.

Notre Dame's last SEC regular season game was a 41-21 win over Tennessee in 2005.

When reached Tuesday, Georgia athletic director Greg McGarity acknowledged verbal communication with Notre Dame about a potential series but stressed there's no agreement in writing and, thus, no reason to get too excited.

McGarity added Georgia is always talking with schools about scheduling.

When asked about the 2018-19 dates, McGarity said meetings for later this decade have been discussed.

“I think it'd be great for the University of Georgia if we were able to make it happen,” McGarity said.

Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly sparked interest in August when he called Georgia a natural matchup for the Irish.

Notre Dame's last SEC matchup was a 42-14 loss to Alabama in the 2013 BCS National Championship Game.

Before that, the Irish lost 41-14 to LSU in the 2006 Sugar Bowl.

Notre Dame is 26-17 all time against the league.

Notre Dame faces unique scheduling conflicts because of its five-game commitment to the ACC and other long-standing agreements, so let's see if this one gets done.

We're supposedly supposed to have 4 games with them in the next 15 years (likely 2022-23 and 27-28)

I love that series. I wish our games were more spaced out. We played 4 games in 5 years I believe from 01-05.

Of course Tennessee's game vs. ND was a loss. They can't ever beat any decent OOC team they schedule. Probably because their team stays in shite every single year.

But on the other hand, I don't think ND knows what they're getting into. By that time, MR will most likely be gone and some GOAT coach will take his place. Which will end up in 2 abysmal losses

LSU used to have some kind pseudo-rivalry with Notre Dame (played roughly once every three years for 27 years). Why has LSU stopped trying to schedule the Irish? Seems like ND would be a better choice for their annual non-conference BCS opponent than schools that they have no ties with, like Wisconsin and Arizona State.

We've played ND 6 times the past 25 years.

W - 91, 99 and 01
L - 90, 04 and 05

3-3 if you can't read.

Look at Notre Dame, turning down years of requests from the SEC powers, and finally going for the lay up.

Good for UGA. I've been wanting them to man up and play Auburn for years now. We should have played them in the Fiesta Bowl in 2006, but the bowl committee decided to take a team with the same record that lost head to head against AU (still not sure how that happened).

Natural matchup? Not sure what that's about but
there's no doubt it'll help boost ND recruiting efforts in Ga...even in the short term.

But I'd love to make the road trip to South Bend.

"Georgia a natural matchup for the Irish." -Brian Kelly

McGarity heard this and has been trying ever sense to close this deal. Time to put up, or shut up, ND.

I travel to at least one "big" away game annually.
The Texas A&M at Notre Dame game was--bar none--the most disappointing of all OOC games to which I've been.
Hugely overrated.

i've heard Southbend is nothing to write home about and that Notre Dame stadium has arguably the worst sitelines of any football stadium. Still, I'd go just to see their campus smothered in red and black.
