Head-coaching since 2007 might have him a little rusty, but you would think the coordinator for two of the top defenses of 2004 and 2005 would still have some potential.

This is garbage. JK I love the Chiz. I'd hire him just to have God on my side.

Who was the better DC, Chizik or Muschamp?

He should, he was a top flight defensive coordinator imo.

Will Muschamp had great defenses at Auburn and Texas, just like Gene Chizik...only Will Muschamp continued to have a great defense at Florida, while Gene Chizik had mediocre to terrible defenses at Auburn (the second time around) and Iowa State.

I give the nod to Will Muschamp.

If Kiffin gets another chance then why not Chiz?

Bama should switch to 4-3 and hire Chizik.

Can you imagine it? Saban, flanked by Kiffin and Chizik?

Gene Chizik will get another chance as a defensive coordinator.

However, I'm willing to bet it won't be by a school with near the accolades Alabama has. It will probably, and smartly, be by a middle of the road school that doesn't play in a completely spread offense dominated conference.

The Tampa-2 is archaic in modern college football.

I don't think Chizik's scheme works anymore. That along with his ability to teach tackling and I don't think he'll be as good as he was ever again.

I think Gene Chizik is a good man and deserves to be in coaching again. if fricking KIFFIN can get a job at a top program, why cant Chiz and he got a natty under his belt.

As a head coach, Chiz provided the blueprint for the modern Tamp 2 defense:

Simple. Have an offense that can out-score the other offense.

Yea, Iowa State and Auburn had major troubles with simple tasks such as just tackling...

How did Gene Chizik coach such great defenses at Auburn and Texas, and then just drop off a cliff in every way imaginable when he became the head coach? It's mind boggling... It makes you think he wasn't the mastermind behind those great defenses from 2003-2006.

Because he wasn't focusing on defense alone, a head coach has a ton of responsibilities. Look at all the coordinators in the NFL that became head coaches and couldn't swing it.

But once they go back to focusing on either offense or defense it's like they never missed a beat.

I know he had some great D's at Auburn. IIRC, at Texas they weren't so great.

Coach Tub was the great D mind during that time. He does not get the credit he deserves, for being as good a D mind as their is, IMO.
