Other than the paycheck why do people do the SEC thing?

I don't get it, I would never pull for Bama. I know UT is mired in shite right now and it happens to most teams, but I will not live vicariously though my rivals.

Because back when were were all sad about joining the SEC instead of the Big Ten this is what the SEC people told us they did.

So I fell in line with what I was sold, but I'm beginning to see that I don't like most of you people and don't want your teams to win.

It used to not be that way. I don't know but I think it kinda started when ESPN started doing to an informal Conference Cup deal years ago.

Sharing paycheck after rivals' championship is an illusion. When our rivals win recruiting battles and beat us more often we lose more money in the long run.

Because most people are followers and followed the SEC chant for football. It is starting to die out though since it is a fad. Auburn chanting SEC in the middle of the natty title game while going home on the losing end just made them sound stupid....like it is what they are to do even though it turned out to be wrong (the SEC chant since they thought they were going to win).

I'd think an old Big12 guy would be shouting SEC-SEC-SEC at every opportunity. But maybe that's just me. I still get plenty of all-Big12-all-the-time BS from Texas friends. Maybe it's different in Missouri. For me, I root for SEC teams all the time in any sport, when they aren't playing against A&M. I haven't had the opportunity to shout "SEC, SEC, SEC" yet as the opponents were either SEC schools or La Tech... and it would have been bad form in that context.

I'm an Ole Miss fan, not an SEC fan. There are some teams that I would root for in conference but some that I never ever would.

As a State fan, I justify our football history by the level of competition we play. When all of our losses come to top teams it's an easier pill to swallow. Plus we can get some recruits by selling the chance to play sec ball. And the extra revenue sharing is nice

It pisses off everyone else to know we have superior athletics.

We "claim" to be the best athletic conf. in the nation. If our teams don't produce, we are liars.

I'm mostly in rant mode. It's pretty cool, I'm stopped all the time when wearing Mizzou stuff by SEC people. It's a real thing.

Unfortunately, being out here in the desert, the Rant is generally the only contact I have with other SEC fans, and it makes me pretty much despise every fricking one of you. Then I'll get stopped in a store by a nice girl from UGA just saying hi because I'm in a Mizzou shirt and it's all okay until these UGA douches start talking shite, then they can go frick themselves.

Cycle repeats.

Most of y'all are too young to remember the beginnings, but long ago most of the rest of the country made fun of our region about all if our traditions, backwardness etc as a region.

But we were very good at football. So good, in fact, that they scheduled around us and outright cheated us in th polls.

As time went in, they began to have to play us to get a legit NC.

When we beat them, it was a collective "told you so." Regional pride. FU everyone else. SE mfing C by God.

I searched, but "Las Ville" is ambiguous. Where are you?

Certainly understandable. For me that started much earlier. I've been in MS for 30+ years and listened to MSU fans at work (we're eaten up with them) crow about how tough the SEC was, as if MSU had anything to do with it. But now that A&M is here and I get to go to games and we're playing Ala-fricking-bama, I'm all in. SEC, SEC, SEC.

Yelling SEC SECat the end of A&M's destruction of Big Xii champ OU in Cotton Bowl '13 was the most enjoyable, vindictive, fun thing i've ever yelled anywhere.
