"If it holds that athletes are employees, Title IX, which refers to access to education, may not apply, said Ellen J. Staurowsky, a professor of sports management at Drexel and an expert on Title IX and college sports reform."

NY Times article 4/3 by Jere Longman.

Isn't this what most AD's have been hoping for?

Better to keep paying them under the table while praying you don't get caught in the process.

Sounds like a BS statement by a supposed expert. From the bill itself:
quote:

No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving federal financial assistance.

Title IX is FAR more than access to education.....

If this goes to the Supreme Court for a decision there is no chance of the players winning unless one of the conservative justices dies and is replaced by a non neo liberal/conservative corporatist before they hear the case. (hint -not likely under Obama, Clinton, or potential Repub president)

Otherwise they will lose 5-4 at best.

Good. Title 9 its stupid. No reason women's softball players deserves the same benefits as a player of a revenue generating sport like football.

It's about proportional spending. Not equal. How is that hard to understand?

Workmans Comp and Insurance will be costly to the point Scholarships would have to be cut. As employees of the University, the "student athlete" would have to pay taxes on the value of the scholarship. The athletes themselves will vote down the Union.
