quote:

The University of Georgia announced Friday that swimming and diving coach Jack Bauerle was suspended from “all job-related responsibilities effective immediately” after receiving a notice of allegations of NCAA violations.

The NCAA alleged in the notice issued Wednesday that Bauerle made “special arrangements” on Dec. 10, 2013, with a professor to add men’s swimmer Chase Kalisz to a course for the fall 2013 semester. Classes for the semester already ended and final exams were under way.

Kalisz, a sophomore from Bel Air, Md., received a passing grade on Dec. 16 “despite not completing any work for the class,” according to the NCAA letter to UGA President Jere Morehead.
The case is considered a “severe breach of conduct,” according to the NCAA notice that alleged Bauerle violated NCAA bylaws.

Kalisz’s name and the name of the professor leading the class were redacted from information released by UGA on Friday. However, Kalisz was suspended by Georgia on Jan. 4 before his eligibility was restored two weeks later. He later won the NCAA 400 meter individual medley with an American record.

Ah yes... Jan Kemp... Jim Harrick... now this.

A long, notable history.

UNC straight up invented classes and an entire major that did not require students to either attend class or submit anything close to college-level work.

They also had tutors take online tests and quizzes for athletes.

Bauerle has allegedly asked a teacher to give a student an incomplete for a class so that the student would meet the hours requirement needed to compete. Still wrong and he will likely lose his job for it (big no-no for coaches to interfere in academics in any way), but it's nowhere close to what UNC has been doing.

Let's be honest, on the UGA athletics academic misconduct scale, 0 to Jan Kemp, this is like a 0.2

In the grand scheme, it's a big deal because it's academic misconduct. But in terms of academic misconduct, this isn't horribly egregious. UGA has dealt with much worse.

True.

In UGA's long, sordid, and well established history of manipulating academics for athletics, this is barely a blip.

You want to talk about swimming? seriously?

The University of Auburn football program reportedly engaged in numerous NCAA violations under former head coach Gene Chizik that could result in the school possibly losing their 2011 National Championship.

And...

"We thought we would be without (running back) Mike Dyer because he said he was one of them, but Auburn found a way to make those dudes eligible," said former Auburn defensive lineman Mike Blanc.

Former Auburn safety Mike McNeil, who the school vanquished after his arrest on armed robbery charges in 2011, told Roberts in her report that his grade for a computer science class was an F. After informing a counselor within the athletic department, his grade was changed from an F to a C in a matter of days and he did not miss a game.
