The Oklahoma vs. Texas football game has been updated with a corporate name, AT&T Red River Showdown, both schools announced this afternoon.

“The Oklahoma-Texas game played annually at the Cotton Bowl is one of the grandest traditions in all of college football,” said Joe Castiglione, University of Oklahoma Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Programs and Director of Athletics. “We will continue striving to make this contest a truly memorable experience for the student-athletes and fans of both the University of Oklahoma and The University of Texas amidst the unique and colorful atmosphere of the State Fair of Texas.”

“We’re excited to continue connecting college football fans to this iconic game for years to come,” said Mark Wright, Vice President of Media Services & Sponsorships, AT&T. “Texas and Oklahoma fans are passionate about their teams and this game in particular. We love being able to help fans enjoy the matchup as part of such a long-standing football tradition.”

When we were still in the Big 12, all A&M/Texas matchups were technically branded as the State Farm Lone Star Showdown.

There are several rivalries in the SEC that could (and in today's world probably will) get branding.

World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party
Third Saturday in October
Iron Bowl
Egg Bowl
Southwest Classic
Deep South's Oldest Rivalry
Magnolia Bowl

I'm sure there are more rivalry names that I don't know that could be added.

How soon until these games have sponsored names like the Hillandale Farms Egg Bowl?

yes, but I am asking about SEC rivalries.

With how people reacted to the Gator Bowl becoming the TaxSlayer Bowl I wonder if there would be a fear that eventually something like the Magnolia Bowl could become the TD Ameritrade Bowl.

And yet they wonder why players want to start a union.

TSIO should be sponsored just to rustle LSU fans.

Good Lord, that's disgusting. I hope the WLOCP never goes this route, but I'm sure we'll bow down to the almighty dollar eventually. It's sad, really.

Only acceptable sponsor would be Miller Lite (impossible since Alltel is a bud light stadium) or some sort of bourbon, which also won't happen.

I would rather be the Ivy League than the NFL. Have no scholarships.... just watch the game played by the teams you love. A game that's not built to make money.

I love money, at least having it myself. UF and UGA have enough money, they shouldn't shite on 100 years of tradition to the highest bidder.

IMO UGA can never have enough money but that's me. I don't think it does diddly to tradition other than makes more money off of it for UGA and UF to use. Only bad part about it is that UF gets some.
