It's literally thunderstorming all day Friday and we have 9 miles to paddle.
I've never been straight up in the middle of a God-stricken thunderstorm while on the river, so I have a case of the worries.
Anything in particular yall think I shold bring? I have a rain suit and dry bags. Thinking about grabbing a couple fire starters in case the wood is so wet I can't even hack it to make fiya.
TIA

That sounds dreadful. I've done a canoe/camping trip in the rain, with no thunderstorms and it was awful. We all put a little firewood in our dry bags, but that supply went quick and we were in our tents by 6. It only rained the first day though thankfully.
The only thing I would suggest is lots of quick drying clothes. Avoid 100% cotton. It was nice to get off the river that first night and put on some dry clothes, and the wet clothes be dry by the next morning.

There's a bad feeling when you run off the water due to electricity only to hide under tall trees..

Well, frick.
I have a lot of polyester material workout shirts that I'll bring just to be safe.
But most of my shite, obviously, is cotton.

Can you give me your password in you case you never return? I think it would be cool for your username to live on.

Is it only supposed to rain the first day? You should be fine in the rain suit. I had some gore-tex pants I wore and my shorts were bone dry all day. The gore-tex jacket was way too hot so I didn't wear it and my shirt was soaking wet, but we hung our clothes on a limb underneath a tarp and they were dry by the morning. It quit raining around 10 or 11 that night.

Bring an extra pair of dry shoes and go to REI or Mountain Outfitters and pick up one of their survival kits and make sure it's got the heat blankets, storm proof matches, tinder quick, and potable water pills. Odds are you'll never need any of these things but you just never know.

Have fun and good luck. And it probably wouldn't hurt to get some good gloves, but you may already have some if you kayak regularly.

Hopefully you won't get struck by lightning
