Could JFF Make You Trade Teams?

So a good friend of mine who is a lifelong Cowboys fan told me the other day that after years of Jerry's incompetence (with no hope in sight) if they draft JFF then the Texans will be his favorite NFL team (at least until Jerry hires a real GM).

This does not apply to me as the Saints are my main connection to home, but it did make me think that maybe if would be worth drafting Johnny just to finally cut into the Cowboy's dominance in the state.

So I ask you current Cowboy or other NFL fans: could this draft push you to change your favorite team?

I have told my friends the same thing. Other than being from Dallas, I have no emotional connection to the Cowboys.

Not to be daft but if Johnny is a success, he's going to be a marketing boon to any franchise. Johnny will definitely carry an initial surge, but if they don't follow it up by winning, he'll quickly lose that luster (Cam, RG3, Tebow, etc)

When you win, they talk about someone. But when you lose, you don't get talked about at all. In the end, winning creates icons and winning also builds fanbases.

yes, considering i have no favorite teams, just players. Next year my list will be Peyton Manning, Marshawn Lynch, JFF, Mike Evans, Miller, Brady, Brees, Wilson, gronk, and frank gore. Mostly because they have helped/will help my fantasy team.

Sure sure. Fans follow success.

With that said, I do feel that a homegrown Texas boy being successful would go a long way towards cutting into the "state pride" advantage the Cowboys have over the Texans. Like a successful JFF would bring in more long-term fans than an equally successful random yankee QB.

I don't know about "trading teams," but I'll definitely want to see every single game of the team that he lands on.

No. Nothing will make me root for any team other than the Dallas Cowboys.

I'm a Texans fan so I won't have this problem as I don't see Jerry trading to get Johnny.

nope.

The Texas will never become my primary NFL team mainly b/c their name is an insultingly lazy attempt to grab fans from around the state. I would watch them (or any other team) that JFF played for though.

I would instantly buy season tickets at JerryWorld if the Cows somehow are able to get their grubby mitts on JFF even though I have lost faith in them doing anything of note any time soon.

I am not trying to say who your primary team should be, but I do think it was the best name out of the options they were considering at the time:

During this time, a handful of team names were trademarked for potential use by the franchise, including Apollos, Bobcats, Challengers, Colt 45's, Energy, Hurricanes, Roughnecks, Roughriders, Roustabouts, Stallions, Stormcats, Texans, Texians, Toros, Wildcats, Wildcatters, and Wranglers.

The Houston Stormcats would have been hilarious.

You must not be a fan of the baseball team based in Arlington.

Not really a fan of any of those but Wranglers, Toros, Wildcatters, Hurricanes, and Stallions are all easily better than Texans IMO. I'd also take the others (besides Texians, that is just as weak sauce as Texans) even though they are pretty craptastic.

Seriously now, what would you think of a team called the San Jose Californians or the Orlando Floridians? You wouldn't at how desperate and lazy it sounds?

Its sad b/c I actually think their bull/Texas flag logo is pretty kick arse.

Yeah and they stole the name from my alma mater Tarleton State Texans.

None of those are good, but the most mind-numbingly bland and unoriginal choice was "Texans". Toros would have been much, much better.

That said, Johnny becoming a ..."Texan" might do it for me. I'd have to watch a game or two to see how I felt about it.

I'm not crazy about the Texans name either but when people compare it to Orlando Floridians or whatever like you did it's just dumb. Texas and Texans carry a whole different connotation. That said its a damn shame that cocksucker Bud Adams took the Oilers name with him. Great name that captured an enormous part of the city and states culture to go along with some of the best unis and logo in pro sports.

I won't drop the Texans for the Jags or browns or something if he gets drafted by them but I will certainly be rooting for his individual success so he can shut everyone up

Not really.

The word Texian I would be more apt agree with but Texan is just as generic as New Yorker.

It's like how the Montreal Canadians is just a lame as hell name.

No. I've cooled to the NFL andouille I still pull for the Texans, it's not life or deat like college football to me. Plus,mi play fantasy football and I follow players more than teams.

well the term New Yorker holds a lot more weight than Floridian or Georgian or something else anyways so that was a pretty bad comparison. And nobody uses the term Texian anymore or knows what it really means.

And Montreal is the Canadiens not the Canadians and it's based off the French name they originally used. Most of those people call them the Habs anyways
