Records don't change anything. 11 would demolish the others head to head. That defense was simply too good and had too much heart.

Why did you exclude the SEC Championship wins for 1992, 2009, and 2012? Also, I disagree with including rankings from the times of the game. Where did those teams finish ranked?

Rank them based on what? Our favorite? Who would win head to head?

My favorites would be ranked: 92, 09, 11, 12

2011 beats them all head to head due to that nasty D.

Ranked on who would win head to head, I'd go with:

1. 2011 - That defense was so good, and the offense was very good in its own right.

2. 2012 - Great balance of really good defense/offense. The best offense of the four teams.

3. 1992 - Right up there with the 2011 defense, but the offense was about as pedestrian as you get on a championship team.

4. 2009 - One of my favorite teams of all time and solid all around, but I think they rank last on this list.

It's weird that the two undefeated teams are behind the two 1 loss teams on my list.

Hard to compare teams across different seasons...but if I had to I'd rank 'em by performance, using final AP rankings of the teams they beat, as opposed to talent:

1. 2009 (#2 Texas, #3 Florida, #10 Va Tech, #17 LSU, #20 Ole Miss)
They beat 5 teams in the top 25, 3 in the top 10, and also beat both teams that finished in the rankings just below 'em. Not many teams in history have finished the season with wins over the #2 and #3 teams in the country.

2. 1992 (#3 Miami, #10 Florida, #12 Tennessee, #16 Ole Miss, #23 Miss State)
Also beat 5 teams in the top 25, but only 2 in the top 10. This team won first with their defense...I think with the more recent 2011 defensive dominance, that this defense some times gets overlooked. The '92 defense was just as good...

3. 2012 (#4 Notre Dame, #5 Georgia, #14 LSU, #24 Michigan; a loss to #6 Texas A&M)
Beat 4 teams in the top 25, 2 in the top 5, but also dropped a game to #6...

4. 2011 (#2 LSU, #5 Arkansas; a loss to #2 LSU)
This team only had 2 wins against the top 25, albeit both teams were in the top 5, but also dropped a game. While this team had a dominant defense and was arguably the most talented team Bama's had since the Bear, their schedule didn't do 'em any favors since it was the weakest of the last 4 championship teams. And while I think they might beat any of the other 3 head-to-head, based on performance, I'd have to rate 'em at #4...

This is like ranking the girls I have slept with - they were all awesome in their own way.

Eta: Plus there are only four of them.

Switch 09 and 92

That 92 offense was awful. 2009 offense was loaded and heavy set. And the defense, while not nearly as loaded, was still a #1 defense.
