Am I the only one who thinks Mitchell should be getting some of Retin's minutes?
Posted on 11/18/14 at 2:38 pm to Bryant91092
Nope. Or Tarrants minutes for that matter. Yeesh he throws up a lot of forced shots and isn't a great shooter. Mitchell and Norris are the best pure shooters we have, if anyone is going to force a 3 Id rather it be those two.

I don't mind Tarrant occasionally settling for a 3, but when he and Levi are able to drive at will and get layup after layup, it makes no sense to pull up for a deep 3. I'm hopeful his decision making will improve the more games he gets back into the swing of things. Retin on the other hand constantly plays out of control and still can't shoot. His athleticism makes him a good defender, but from what little I've seen from Mitchell, I think they should be splitting those minutes.

It was the one thing I was worried about with him. At Tulane he forced 3s like crazy. I was hoping that maybe since he was surrounded by more talent he would be willing to tone it down. That certainly doesn't seem to be the case. Hopefully his shot starts falling. I'm starting to hope Coleman plays close to starting PG minutes the whole season, with Tarrant playing a lot of SG. I don't particularly like having a gunner at PG. It can stagnate the offense and result in more forced shots.

with my user name i'm certainly quick to avoid calling people assholes. with a name like your's i'd probably avoid calling people vaginas and whatnot. that's just the captain obvious speaking.

Wtf are you yapping about...I've been pretty optimistic about this season. Just because I'm not licking grants a-hole doesn't mean I think this team won't amount to anything....maybe you should read this thread and other bball threads on here and get back to me

Does anyone else think Retin should be getting some of Coleman's minutes? I mean I like Coleman, and see him as our next great PG down the road, but he's been playing like a freshman after the first couple games. I mean he's shooting just 28% from the field, jacks up way too many 3s (7.2 per 40) and has been making just as many terrible passes as good passes. Retin adds much more defensively and on the boards. It's a tough call considering we would have to have Randolph or Tarrant bringing the ball up the floor most of the time and it would take away some of Coleman's PT to develop, but it's something worth discussing.

Against teams who play mostly man, absolutely. Otherwise, not at all. Vs. a zone it's 4on 5 with Retin in there. I wish our O consisted of some set plays, because running a couple of set plays for Coleman could get him going, but he is definitely struggling to find open, good looks right now.

I was thinking that same thing yesterday, especially after how well Retin played against A&M. Coleman just doesn't look comfortable yet and he's not really even close with his shot right now. I wish Tarrant could play all 40 minutes though.
ETA: It's easy to see that Coleman doesn't know how to run an offense yet (insert neither does Grant comment). He knows how to push the ball quickly up the court but he doesn't look comfortable trying to swing the ball around the perimeter or look for a post pass. Both Tarrant and Retin look way more comfortable out there running our offense.
