it doesn't appear that Martin's decision to pull his name out of the Marquette search is related to Tennessee offering him a substantial increase on his current deal. Now, that may happen in the future, but from what we can gather it doesn't seem like this was about him making some demands, having them met and then telling Marquette 'no thanks.'

Right now, he is likely looking at a roughly 2 year extension and a salary of $1.7-$1.8m and no significant increase in buyout.

Looks like this was simply a case of Marquette going with Wojo since Cuonzo doesn't and apparently never did have any leverage.

Seems fair. I think he deserves 2 more years but I was going to be fine either way because basketball roster are not incredibly difficult to rebuild. Look at Kentucky, they rebuild every year.

Yup, coaches take their name out of consideration all the time when they know they aren't getting the job.

I don't know. Gary Parrish tweeted that he spoke with a source within the MU AD that said, as of last night they thought they had Martin locked up.

He's saying Martin withdrew because MU doesn't have a permanent president or AD. It can be tough going into a job, where you don't know who your boss will be.

I actually applaud Tennessee for giving him a modest raise and not overdoing it like many teams do.
