The last time an 8 seed won the NCAA championship was when Villanova beat Georgetown in 1985.
Georgetown had beaten Villanova 3 times that season
The championship game was played in Rupp Arena
Eta: Nevermind they only played three times that year. I was lied to yesterday on the radio.
Georgetown and St. Johns happened to play 4 times that year though.

LSU's 1986 final four team beat Kentucky to go to the final 4 after losing to them 3 times during the season.

That's what I thought as well.
When this was asked the other day, I thought maybe Duke/North Carolina would be on the list but they almost never set them up to see each other until the NC game (unlike us vs. UofL at this point).
Gotta get past Wisky first though.

Bama-UK four times during the '85-'86 season.
Played for the SEC Tourney Title, twice in regular season and again in the Sweet Sixteen.
NCAA put at least three maybe four SEC teams in the same region.

The year UF made the championship game and lost to Michigan State, Michigan State beat Wisconsin 4 times to get there including a Final Four game.
