Anyone have any good laptop recommendations?

I'm looking to purchase a new laptop tomorrow. I want something that will have decent performance, high resolution screen (preferably at least 16-17 inches), ease of use, and be a good value. 2gb memory is fine, I have 2gb of RAM that I'll be adding to it. Looking to spend between $300-500. Anyone on here have any suggestions on what to look for or what's the best laptop for my budget? Thanks for the help!
Its going to be replacing a 4 year old Acer that is out of warranty, that literally caught on fricking fire. The battery overheated and started melting the plastics around the speakers. Next thing I knew I had flames coming out of it.

I use a lonovo I bought at Best Buy a couple years ago for goofing off on the net, full keyboard with number pad 17 inch monitor, paid around $280 for it, I bought it because it had Windows 7 and if I wanted to use the panes and apps like in windows 8 I'd use my fricking phone...

Buy another Acer.
I asked the board the same question two months ago with the exact same budget. However, based off recommendations, I ended up buying this Lenovo and absolutely love it.

Damn that's nice.
Someone suggested buying a MacBook but I can't justify spending $1000+ on a laptop that has the same performance of a $350 one.
I've been looking at HP's recently, particularly the one that comes with Beats audio. I'll primarily be using it to goof off here, watch movies, Youtube, Facebook, and listen to tons of music, the usual.
Next month I'll be getting a new phone, my Galaxy S3 is cracked up to shite. Saw the S5 but do not want. Was looking at either the HTC M8 or a S4 mini. I'll probably ask for recommendations on that later.
Thanks again guys

Maybe something along these lines for the price range. LINK

Macbook Air.
The weightlessness is worth the extra cost. You'll be carrying it for many years to come.

You pay more for apple, because its the hip thing to do.

Don't spend a great deal on one then, the internet is like hooking up with chicks in a bar, sure its fun, its easy, you can do it whenever you want, but odds are you are going to catch something you can't get rid of or slows you down.
For my side "work" I have a toughbook that never connects to the internet, it is set up to manage the various programs I use, interface with the devices, and is good to go for now on.

I got suckered into an iPhone way back when, now every time its time to upgrade I get another free iPhone or have to pay for a different model, so I take the free one, I have the new 5, it texts and makes calls and stuff.

Asus laptops are the most reliable.

I am an iPhone/iPad fan but I love my Asus laptop. 5 years old and still performs like a champ.

I bought a smaller Lenova for under 300 for my son the christmas before last and I've pretty much taken it over. My own cost around 1,200 but I like his b/c of the size and he likes mine for his games. That little cheap thing works well and is easy to transport.

Just don't buy HP, they often have quality issues. I like Lenovo and Asus best.

Yeah I was going to buy an HP before I posted here and got set straight. I wanted to get an Asus but the one I wanted was too far out of my budget for a work laptop. When I replace our home one, I will probably go that route however.
I absolutely love the Lenovo I ended up getting. It's light enough that I don't even notice it when I'm carrying it around in my bag for meetings. The battery life can pretty much get me through the whole workday too. Mind you, I'm only using it for word, excel, power point and internet research. I'm not streaming which would probably drain it much quicker. I also love the keyboard. It's got a great response and is extremely quiet.
The only downsides I have with it are that it comes with Windows 8 which I despise and the touchpad doesn't have a clear dividing line between the right and left buttons so sometimes when I'm in a hurry and not centered I will click the right button when I need the left.

What Lenovo is it that you have? My MacBook of 6 years pooped out on me last night and I'm looking for a PC to do accounting spreadsheet work and internet browsing etc.

if you're looking for something in a tablet with functionality similar to a laptop the Microsoft Surface Pro is pretty exceptional in that regard.

Why do you like this laptop so much?
I've been saving up to get a 27" iMac, it's what I work on in my office I got a little special treatment and it's spoiling me a bit and spending $2k on a 'puter is overkill that I really don't need. I'm thinking I'm better off getting a PC laptop, a good well built one that will last a few years. The HP's I've had have been dogshit with shite components or good components but a flimsy case design and inner frame.
I'm probably going to also get either a Mac mini or a 2nd trash <$300 laptop for streaming games and internet usage and keep the other for work, design stuff, and customer data.

And I ended up getting a Toshiba. Windows 8.1 isn't nearly as bad as I expected. I'm enjoying this laptop but it is a little heavy
