3 things stood out to me.

-expects to have staff hired on or before the final four.
-Wants a neutral site game in Birmingham or Atlanta every year
-Said one reason we will schedule tough is when we schedule easy teams we are in affect telling our players they are no good

Pearl said playing a weak non-conference schedule in the first year basically admits that you suck, and he's not going to do that. Will travel to play big-name opponents the first couple of years until they want to come to AU. Only way to boost RPI.

This guy gets it. Love him more and more everyday.

Should start this Arby's classic back up with UAB

Screw UAB. We're trying to get our program out of mediocrity, not continue to swim in it.

You must not remember the Arby's classic then, that's when Auburn was actually good on a consistent basis.

What's that got to do with the here and now? If UAB wants to play us, they can come to Auburn. Like Pearl keeps saying, playing teams like that does nothing for us.

Would be awesome. My pops used to take me every year. Great for both schools & Bham.

That's usually a top 100 rpi team on the resume in march.

Unless UAB picks back up soon it's not worth it right now. I would rather play Memphis in B'Ham every other year and that's a doable solution with his connections at Memphis.

UAB is traditional a better basketball program than Auburn. They will be good in the next year or 2. Coach Haase is a Roy Williams disciple, and this season UAB beat North Carolina, Tulsa, Nebraska, and lost in OT at New Mexico.

Thats 3-1 with a OT loss on the road vs 4 tourney teams. They're in a better place than we are, would be a good RPI win if they played

I doubt Pastner wants to play in Birmingham, and then let Pearl come play games in Memphis in return.

They also had 4 losses to RPI 200+ teams and had a losing record versus RPI 101-200 teams. Both of those are considered pretty bad. Their overall RPI is 152. They will have to pick things up before playing them in B'Ham would be a quality game. Also, with Pearl at AU I think it will be harder for UAB to get the local star to rejuvinate them. I would personally wait to see them improve before scheduling them.
