Nah. There is nothing like having your own yard.

Nope.

The mortgage on the house we're looking at will be half my rent for triple the square footage.

I don't really see the point if you are not planning on being in a city for a long period of time (5+ years).

I bought my first house last November and I LOVE it.

Apartment living was the worst. 2 things I hated the most were the noise and cramped space. I'll never share a wall with strangers ever again.

I could see why renting makes sense in NYC or LA. But in the south where house prices are dirt cheap I see no point of renting it.

Yeah, that's why I just rent a house.

I bought my first house about a year and a half ago. Been great so far. I'm renting my extra room out to my sister and it's making my mortgage really cheap.

This part sucks for us because we finished building ours in January of 2007. Now the homes in our area are appraising for less than they cost to build due in part to the builder foreclosures.

Ya, its tough for people who owned prior to the bubble. My parents have decided that they are going to add on instead of trying to sell. Add some more value to the house and ride it out another 10 years to hopefully better markets.

I bought after the bubble, so any positive move the market makes is going to help me.

I've owned a house for 10 years. The only time it sucks is when something breaks there's no landlord to call and foot the bill to fix it. New a/c, new furnace, new roof, new garage doors, etc. That shite is expensive.

yet you owe hundreds of thousands of dollars in an economy that could go right back to shite by this time tomorrow

Sorant, I could buy right now, but I'm not. We could easily move to another state for the right opportunity, and I don't plan on buying until I can put down a lot of money and we're settled in to somewhere for the long haul.

It's finally starting to come back because there's not much inventory left where we are, but the banks haven't quite caught up yet. A couple in our neighborhood had to bring a good amount of cash to the table to buy a house (more than 20% of agreed upon sales price).

As mentioned, if you have the credit, buying is cheaper than renting.
