What can an ipod touch do that an iphone can't?

I see both 64GBs are $399 on the Apple site. I would like something that holds more music than my 16GB 4S or my 30GB Zune from 2007 ( ). I also want to use my Google Play app so that defeats getting a basic ipod.

Recommendations? Should I just upgrade my phone and call it a day?

Magic. It's common knowledge that the ipod touch is a gifted magician. Buy it, unless you dislike jaw-dropping stunts and spectacular entertainment.

The iPod won't do anything the phone can't. However, the price is technically not the same. The subsidized price for the phone may be $399, but you will end up paying the rest of the cost of the phone over the life of the contract. It'll end up being around $600 or so, can't be sure. With the iPod, you pay up front and that's it.

If you just want to upgrade your phone, go for it. But a 4S ought to last you until the next iPhone comes out, if you are interested in that.
