The mother was called to the school by her child's teacher. The child is special needs and was freaking out. Then the principal called the cops on her for trespassing.

“I didn’t sign the book, but I had to check on my son. You can bring me the book, She said oh no, I’ve already called the police. You called what,” said Williams.

Calverton Park Police responded to the call that came out as an “unauthorized entry to a school.” The school was also put on a 12-minute lockdown and a letter was sent home to parents.

“They escorted me away from my son, who already has emotional distress. Four officers told me to turn around and put my hands behind my back, I was under arrest,” said Williams.

She was taken to the police station on trespassing charges but Williams said she is a known parent. In fact, she met with the principal on Wednesday about a separate issue.

The principle and staff would have been fired in this day of mandated rules, probably put in prison for not calling the swat team out.

This is where society in America has evolved less I digress...

I swear the death of this country and world will be idiot bureaucrats sticking to the letter of the law instead of using their brains. People need to get it through their thick skulls that rules and even most laws are there to make our lives easier not to complicate them or make us into slaves to those rules. The mom saying bring me the book I'll sign it and the principal saying sure is a reasonable outcome that SHOULD have happened. The principal say 'oh sorry I've already called the law' is not. The police officer responding to the call asking questions, finding out the situation and asking her to sign the book, leave etc. would have been a reasonable outcome. The officer blindly arresting the woman rather than using his brain and discretion is NOT a reasonable outcome.

The principal wins the dumbass award but the officer should've used his brain as well. No arrest should've been made. A little common sense would've gone a long way here.

My kids' school is pretty strict about signing in when someone visits the school, but that's pretty ridiculous.

That would be my kids last day in that school. If the school principal is that stupid I certainly wouldn't feel good about leaving my child there.

My ex-wife and I had to take our son out of Wedgewood when he was in the second grade because of the dumbass principal.

I understand being strict about signing in but you have to make some exceptions.

The root of which can be summed up in one sentence: The most asinine lawsuits ever conceived actually being heard and awarded.

Giving lawyers absolute power during jury selection was one of the worst ideas our forefathers ever developed.

I would say the police here is an overreaction for sure. That being said, I worked for my sons school for 7 years and know all the office staff by name. The principal and I were friends I would even say.

They still make me sign in every time and I don't fault them one bit for it.

Yes, because 6 crazy things happened at 6 of the 98,905 elementary schools in the country.

Go jump in your bunker.

The school, like all schools, has a visitor policy. The administration and police handled this way wrong. This should have been a non issue once the parent and teacher explained the situation. I don't see how this leads to an arrest.

I'm going to make a few points.

1). When the mom was buzzed in she walked right past the sign-in sheet and the admin office. She most likely was asked to sign in at that point and declined.

2). The local news media here in St. Louis have been playing gotcha games with schools. One reporter walked into a local school and purposefully tried to avoid detection and even though the school district called the police because an unidentified person was in the building, the news station tried to run a story on the school's lax security.

So all the schools are on high alert here lest the media try to make an example of them not following procedure.

3). The parent still shouldn't have been arrested.

quote:

Jana Shortt, communications director for the Ferguson-Florissant School District, said she understands that Williams would be upset about the incident but said the school has a strict safety policy for the sake of the children. “In this instance the parent came in, refused to sign in and ran through the hallways to her child’s classroom,” Shortt told The Huffington Post. “She was concerned about her child, but she bypassed the schools procedure for checking in.”

I had a similar experience last fall while picking up my sick 4yo from school. I didn't have a problem signing in, but I didn't have the random 10 digit number assigned to my son. I explained that didn't have the number memorized but they were insisting I provide the number or I couldn't have contact with my own child. Now, having watched me walk in from the parking lot through the window, my son runs out of the nurses office crying for me. They held him back, gave me this whole long story about how they have to have the number because of child custody orders yadayadayada. By this point I was pissed, my sick child was nearly hysterical. I had a copy of my husband's death certificate in my purse, slapped it on the desk and said "I don't HAVE custody orders, I have THIS!" They ended up checking my driver's license and letting me sign him out.

I regret being bitchy with the same office staff I'll have to deal with for the next five years, but I really resented them not letting me attempt to calm my son.

I still don't know the stupid numbers.
