Since the tournament expanded to 64 teams in 1985 there have been 116 final four teams.

The seeding breakdown of those 116:

#1 - 47
#2 - 25
#3 - 14
#4 - 13
#5 - 6
#6 - 3
#8 - 4
#9 - 1
#11 - 3

And the winner overall

#1 - 18
#2 - 4
#3 - 4
#4 - 1
#6 - 1
#8 - 1

So what you're telling me is that a 4 seed is just as likely to win it as an 8 seed.

Hmm... 'bout time for a #7 seed to hit the final four.

LSU's three trips to the Final Four have been as a #1 seed, #4 seed, and #11 seed.

It really doesn't have much relevance in this thread, I just wanted to remind folks that LSU used to be good at basketball.

While technically a #11 seed, VCU actually had to win a play-in game before they were seeded.

He was giving statistical data. We all are aware a 7 & 8 are playing for the title. That doesn't make the statistical data any less telling. Usually the top seeds win the tournament. All this year means is the committee will think twice before making UK a low seed no matter what happened in the regular season.

So really good or great teams are better than pretty good teams? Thanks, Billy Packer.

Well, objectively both Villanova (vs Georgetown) and Kentucky were not the Cinderella's their seeding implied.

But when you use the term "fugetaboutit," you are essentially saying lower seeds have no chance. That's why you should never use an absolute. Because there is always a chance.

Oh we have Mr. literal on the board here.

Seriously I'm just messing with you. I just think this probably isn't a thread I would throw back in someone's face weeks later.
