If they insist on 68 teams, the play ins should be at the 16 level.

Considering I don't bother watching any of the play in games (sorry Vols), I have no idea.

I think it has more to do with the last 4 in instead of the seedings.

What? If anything they should not force teams that won their conference tournament to play in the play-in round.

The tournament should shrink back to 64 teams. But because power conferences got greedy, they had to add 4 at large bids at the expense of the smaller conference auto bids.

In my opinion if the NCAA insists on keeping it at 68 teams force the final 8 at-large teams to play in the play-in round, not teams that earned their way in by winning their conference tourney. Make teams that are sub .500 in conference with 12 or 13 losses play in the play-in round.

This. The last 4 in are still at large bids and seeded based on actual quality.

It wouldn't be fair to put some 1 seeds against an RPI 40 team, and then another 1 seed gets the Northwestern SunValley Conference Champ.

They didn't want the playins to be only 16 seeds.

They should have just left it a 64 team field, no play in games, if you can't get one of the freaking 30'ish at large bids then F you.

Has a 16 ever beaten a 1? At least Cal Poly playing Texas So, won their first ever NCAA tourney game.

But, it needs to be 64 teams with no play ins.

Yeah it is the last four at large bid teams and the last four automatic qualifying teams that play in the First Four.

It's ridiculous that that many teams get in automatically to determine "the best team." I know they won their conference tournament, but Cal Poly has NO business in the NCAA tournament.

No one would watch any play in games that didn't have an interest in the team. I thought the Iowa/UT match up was a good one but wouldn't watch were it not an SEC team.

Every conference gets 1 automatic bid. The conference gets to decide how it will be given out.

A few conferences gave it to the regular season conference champion until very recently, the Ivy League still does. The Big 10 didn't begin having a conference tournament until the 90's.

However for some reason all conferences have no adopted the tournament model for their auto-bid.

So that's the conference's business, not the NCAA's.
