Should not be a surprise, but sounds like Andy Kennedy's contract will be extended back out to four years (state max).

Am I the only one that likes Kennedy?

No. I like him as well. But then again....I don't have retarded expectations that we should be competing on UK or UF levels every year in a sport that previously competed with tennis as the number 3 sport at Ole Miss.

I like him, but I think most years we should at least be in the discussion (NCAA). Especially with the current state of the SEC.

STOP EXTENDING HIM UNTIL HE PRODUCES.

Jesus.

I think maybe next year could be pretty good with the young talent we have that could take the next steps, but WHY do we have to keep extending him??

I don't like the fact that he openly put all of our games into the hands of one player...

I'm on the same page with quite a few others, though: Give him a year or two in the new arena and then analyze his job from there.

Well when you look at the body of work. He has produced for the most part. I don't know if many of you remember just how bad it got during the end of the Rod Barnes years. Rod Barnes was a really nice guy, but his teams really stunk it up for those last few years.

I agree with this, and next year does have some potential for a good season. Perez needs to become the number 2 or 3 scorer. Saiz needs to make a big jump from freshman to sophomore, and the team needs to become a better rebounding team.

Yes, but he's fallen into a rut.

We got to the NCAAT last year thanks to Hendo/Buckner/Holloway, but then took a pretty large step back this year. I realize we had some youth, but still...

I just don't get the extension. He didn't earn it this year.

I don't understand this. Why extend his contract after missing both postseason tournaments?

We have 4 starters coming back. Also, we had a pretty good recruiting class.

I agree that we underperformed in a terrible conference, but I think the future looks not-so-bad. Which is pretty good for OM bball.

That's just it. We got there with Henderson and two very experienced seniors. We aren't the kind of program that can expect to go every year. If we recruit decent and develop players, we should be able to make a run every couple of years though. Coleby and Saiz could develop into some very good players.

One thing that doesn't help us in regards to getting to the tournament is the fact that the SEC as a whole is so bad right now.

I'll sum up my feelings on Kennedy by saying I'm pleased with what he has built to this point, but now he needs to show that we can reach the NCAA tournament every 2-3 years. Realistically, I don't think Ole Miss fans should expect more than that at this point.

ETA: I was really impressed with the growth of Newby this year. His injury was a real shame, but damn last year I was nervous whenever he came into the game.

All that's fine.

Does it explain the extension?

He still had 3 years on his contract.

Would you have complained after last year if they gave him a four year extension on to his contract from last year? (I know the state rules don't allow that). I'm not too concerned with adding a year onto his deal considering his tenure as a whole. Now if we continue to regress then that's a different story.

So it seems like it doesn't matter what kind of success Kennedy would have.

Good luck keeping anybody around with that kind of attitude.

I think Kennedy is about the best bang for our buck.

So I agree, the extension doesn't bother me.

I agreed with a one year extension, and maybe a two year one if that had been possible.

A four year extension on a contract that had three years left would have been retarded, though. For ONE NCAAT appearance? No. No thank you. That's how you end up with Houston Nutt.

We are not a basketball destination for elite talent. We have poor facilities. We have to overcome some things on the recruiting trail. Our budget is below par. You cannot do more with less. AK has done as good as can be expected and historically much better than anyone else has.
