It Took Cali-mari, Roy Williams and Bill Self 2-4 years to turn their respective basketball power houses around where Basketball is number 1,2 and 3.
I am curious as to why people think that Bruce Pearl will be immediately so successful at Auburn, and that they will all the sudden contend for Championships?

I was under the same impression from USC friends when they hired Frank Martin. And SC though at points looked good, their overall depth had them in trouble.

I understand that he is a decent coach (.701 win %) and all. However Buzz Peterson left the cubbard decently stocked at Tennessee for Pearl and not even counting the impact that the interest in basketball at UT thanks to Pat Summit.

How is Pearl going to do with a team that is loosing 3/5 (going off roster from rivals) of their starters for a University that has proven to not support and/or hesitate on hitting the eject button on coaches after a mediocre season?

Not dissing the hire, I wish Ole Miss would have make a splash hire. Though I am a Kennedy supporter. I just think that Auburn fans and those building up Pearl are gonna be severely disappointed and should stop while they are ahead.

Pearl has won at an unprecedented rate at every stop he's been to. However, you are correct to say that he inherited a nice roster in Knoxville.

Pearl will do big things on the plains, though it might not happen in year 1.

A roster that was picked to finish 5th in the East that year.

He will hit the ground running, meeting with recruits, signing the best available in the late period.... wait.

I don't think anyone honestly believes he will be immediately successful at a place like Auburn. It will take him about 5 years to get things turned around. His recruiting ban doesn't help.

It's going to be a tough rebuild...even for a coach that is as good as Pearl. I don't think anyone thinks otherwise.

You are correct. Still had some very talented players, one of which has had a very successful NBA career. Another is the best 3pt shooter in SEC history.

Pearl is legit, I won't deny that. But has everyone already forgotten that SC was just as excited to snag Frank Martin, who had some pretty decent success himself in a major basketball league? SC still sucks.

He's giving AU hope which is great, but I mean it's a shitton easier to win in bball at UT than at auburn.

1. Pearl is a damn good in-game coach. He can coach circles around Calipari, he just can. It will take at least a year but it might not because the SEC has a lot of parody.

2. The state of Alabama is vastly underrated basketball talent wise. Add to that one of the most rich states talent wise in the South (Tennessee) borders this state and the flagship of that school he used to coach at. Pearl is a dynamic recruiter that understands building a program into a yearly competitor (didn't take him long to turn around UT to an annual high seed in the Tourney).

3. The SEC is pretty much up for grabs other than 2 SEC East teams. Auburn is in the SEC West, Pearl can have AU winning the East in at least a year if I had to bet on it.

It was a HR hire

He's not starting on a good foot either. This is a splash hire, but he can't even recruit right now and take advantage of the excitement.

Tennessee had almost the exact same record the year before pearl got there that AU had last year and he went 22-8(12-4) in his first year
