Are Other SEC Fans As Happy About the Pearl Hire As I Am?

I am a lifelong LSU fan and I have always loved LSU basketball since I was a little kid and that '86 Final Four team.

But, I have to say that I am pumped about Bruce Pearl returning to the SEC at Auburn. If he can win there, it should light a fire under the rest of the SEC teams who could/should be good at basketball (LSU, Ole Miss, Miss. St., Arkansas, Tennessee, Vandy, USCe, Georgia, e.g.) to get moving and stop accepting mediocrity.

Alabama stands pat and keeps Grant and Auburn goes after Bruce Pearl and lands him.

I love it. Alabama would not make that decision now.

This starts an arms race among the non-traditional basketball powers, in my opinion. We are used to Kentucky being good so we ignore Calipari. Florida has Donovan and we have gotten used to that too.

But, how do we let Auburn just grab Bruce Pearl and the success that will follow and not respond in kind?

Is this the beginning of the SEC being relevant in basketball again?

I hope that Auburn wins big with him and I hope that the rest of us quit focusing solely on football and start to get competitive again. I remember when the SEC had really good basketball and it was a lot of fun. Hoping that those days return.

Way to go, Auburn!

I like it. The SEC needs more BBall competition and to start being respected.

I don't really think this qualifies as a bamasessed post at all. He's complementing you guys by saying you'll go out and make a dynamite hire next season.

Anthony Grant was seen as a dynamite hire and we all have seen how that turned out. I'm not someone who thinks Pearl all of sudden turns Auburn into some sort of contender.

So you list Ole Miss, MSU, Georgia, Vandy, Auburn, and USCe as traditional powers yet Alabama who has way more SEC titles, NCAA appearances, and total wins than all those teams is somehow a doormat? That aside, I was about to post the same thing. I think Auburn's hiring of Pearl will have a domino effect on the SEC. The schools with questionable coaching will be on notice and go for their own homerun hires in the next few years.

A rising (not crimson) tide lifts all boats.

Mizzou did good work in the non-con but had some awful, awful SEC teams dragging down their RPI in conference (and they lost to them, which didn't help). If The SEC was more solid top to bottom then they may have gotten in the tournament (where they would have gotten their arse handed to them).

It's not like football where you have to go 11-1, 10-2 to get into the big bowls. You can have good losses to good teams and still be fine, so yeah, load up.

Bottom line is I'd rather lose to a Top 25 team than beat a Top 150 team.
