Wes Clark, Shane Rector, Aarion Penton, and Shuan Rupert were arrested Saturday night on suspicion of possession of 35 grams or less of marijuana.

Geezus. Guys. Get smarter about this stuff.
To wit: if your plate is expired, don't smoke weed in your car while you driving.

Young kids, are generally dumbasses.
I was just as dumb at their age, just lucky enough to not get caught.
Maybe Mizzou should sit everyone down and explain that pot is still illegal in Missouri, just so everyone is on the same page.

Great to see camaraderie between the football and basketball team.
When I was in school there was such a riff between sports, good to see the family thing spreads throughout the entire athletic department.
To me this is great news.

This would never happen at kU.
Great recruiting tool.

I mentioned it on the rant, but why is the Columbia Police Department arresting anyone for marijuana possession unless there's a brick of it in the car? It's supposed to be a "lowest priority" offense in the city of Columbia.
I haven't seen anything saying how much was in the vehicle, but assuming the 35 gram limit for possession still exists (and 35 grams is plenty) I don't see why they were arrested.
Does anyone have any additional details?

Sorry, I don't believe you were dumb enough to drive in a car with expired plates smoking weed. Don't believe it.

The definition of "arrested" is probably a bit hazy here.
They were all issued summons and released. 1st offense - $250 fine.

So they were detained and cited. Then this should be a non issue.

I really don't give a shite if Joe Blow at Mizzou gets arrested for possession. Bottom line though is athletes are held to a higher standard. Should they be kicked off the teams? Obviously not. It's just pot. But the decision making has to be better than that given the opportunity they are being given.

My only concern is Gary Pinkel seemed to be lossening up some i.e. music before practice etc, I wonder if these type of incidents will cause him to tighten up a bit.

If you're able to possess marijuana in the city of Columbia with the only risk being a civil fine I don't think anything should happen to the athlete assuming they pay the fine if they're cited.
They need to register their fricking cars though, what is with these people?
ETA: Registration in Missouri costs what? $60? There's no excuse for it.

No, but the level of dumb shite I did from ages 18-21 is on par.
The Navy kind of got all of that out of my system.
Kids are dumb. It's a fact of life.

You're bringing up great points.
The police definitely target low priority stuff like this, it's a shame.
You know they love the publicity of busting Mizzou athletes.

I'm sure they love the publicity, but assuming what I've read about Columbia's marijuana laws is true they're not supposed to be arrested for 35 grams or less.
If they were temporarily detained and cited as mentioned above there's some poor reporting going on. However, if they were actually arrested (not detained) there's likely another issue here concerning the police and their relationship with the laws in Columbia assuming they were under the 35 gram limit.
Then again, they could have had more than 35 grams (I assume it's 35 grams for the vehicle, not 35 grams per individual) they absolutely deserve to be arrested.

I'm with you.
The term 'arrested' is inaccurate unless more is involved (which I doubt).
If they were cited then that's how it should be reported.

I guess the CPD haven't been to the "How to handle your SEC Athletes" training seminar in Birmingham.
I'm thinking the city should put this in the budget next fiscal year.
Probably the last box to check in becoming a true SEC team.
Make it to ATL. Check.
Have a shitty bball team. Check.
Make sure your PD is briefed on how to handle SEC athletes. PENDING.

God damn, Frank Haith's certainly under the microscope now recruiting athletes with character concerns... Tony Criswell, Shane Rector, Wes Clark, nearly signed Steve Clark (OSU kicked off team already), JUCO recruit busted in Florida...this is a troubling pattern and when you're not winning frick you.

No he's not, he was actually using the weed in a way to help the basketball players better perform.
Ever heard the term, "get high"? He was of the understanding it would literally make players jump higher
